Guide to the United Nations Consultant Position

The United Nations repeatedly engages professionals under personal contracts to work on short-term projects either as a consultant or an individual contractor.

A consultant is an identified authority or expert in a distinct field, engaged by the Organization in an advisory or consultative capacity. The functions of a counsel are results-oriented and normally involve studying problems, directing seminars or training courses, preparing documents for conferences and meetings, or writing reports on matters within their area of expertise.

An individual contractor is committed by the Organization to provide expertise, skills, or understanding for the implementation of a typical task or piece of work, which would be short-term by nature. The assignment may implicate full-time or part-time functions similar to those of staff associates.

Locations

The location of jobs may be at different UN duty stations or at any of the UN regional, country, or project offices around the world.
