Task description
1. Gain an in-depth understanding of the mission of the IOM Regional Office for West and Central Africa and its engagement with the governments of West and Central Africa, as well as with other stakeholders. 2. Develop a quarterly external communications plan detailing priorities, target audiences, communications channels and objectives. 3. Write, design and disseminate high-quality, creative and compelling communications and advocacy materials, suitable for diverse audiences, following IOM quality assurance and approval procedures. This includes press releases, human interest stories, social media posts, donor profiles, short videos, fact sheets, articles, and more. 4. Actively maintain the Regional Office’s social media platforms (Facebook and Twitter) in accordance with IOM language and communication standards. 5. Establish and maintain strong relationships with the media to increase the visibility of IOM in West and Central Africa, and successfully propose stories to high-level media, as well as coordinate media requests. 6. Monitor media coverage of migration-related issues, IOM’s visibility in the media, and provide regular updates to the communications team. 7. Regularly update information and content on the IOM West and Central Africa regional website. 8. Contribute to building the capacity of IOM staff and partners in migration-related communications and media engagement, as well as supporting the development of guidelines and good practices for the creation, content management and distribution. 9. Perform other tasks as may be assigned

Eligibility criteria
Age
27 – 80

Nationality
Candidate must be a national or legal resident of the country of assignment.

Requirements
Required experience
3 years of experience in communications, media relations, public relations or other relevant programs; experience in digital communications is an asset, as is experience working within the UN or other international development organizations; • Knowledge of communications strategies, media engagement techniques, content creation and digital communications tools; • Excellent oral and written skills; excellent writing, formulation and report writing skills; • Accuracy and professionalism in document production and correction; • Excellent interpersonal skills; cultural and social sensitivity; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with diverse partners, including members of grassroots communities, religious and youth organizations, and authorities at different levels; knowledge of communication for development tools and approaches; • Ability to work and adapt professionally and efficiently in a demanding environment; ability to work effectively within a multicultural team composed of international and national staff; • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.) and use of email/Internet; knowledge of database management; and office technological equipment; • Autonomy, ability to work with a minimum of supervision; ability to meet tight deadlines; • Safety awareness; • Affinity or interest in migration and human mobility, volunteering as a sustainable development mechanism and the United Nations system.
