DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES
Manage the work of the secretariat of theWHO/EMR Regional Poliomyelitis Eradication Certification by coordinating its key activities, and regularly evaluate the performance of NCCs and provide support forimplementation of RCC recommendations.Provide guidance and technical expertise to theWHO country offices in facilitating the functioning of their respective NCC. Coordinate with and direct countries indevelopment of annual reports and final documentation for submission to RCCfor Regional certification. Support the development of final documentationof regional certification for submission to the Global CertificationCommission.Track and monitor performance of Acute FlaccidParalysis (AFP) and environmental surveillance systems across the region,identify performance gaps and work with the member states to address the gaps. Coordinate with member states, regionallaboratory advisor and country support team in EM/POL to ensure timely shipmentand processing of AFP and environmental samples.Coordinate with member states to conductregular desk and field surveillance reviews.Participatein other regional activities aimed at ensuring thatall countries in the region attain Polio Eradication targets andmilestones as articulated in the GPEI strategy 2022-2026, and thereby achieverequirements for the Region to be certified as free from wild and circulatingvaccine -derived poliovirus (or: thereby maintain the Region polio-free). Provide technical support in other polioeradication related activities as and when advised by the Coordinator and/orDirector, Polio.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Essential: University degreein Medicine or Biological Sciences and master’s degree in Epidemiology or Public Health
Desirable:
Experience
Essential: At least seven years’ experience with international exposure in epidemiology and Polio Eradication as well as control of other communicable diseases of public health importance
Desirable: Experience in Polio Eradication immunization activities and data management.
Skills
Ability to write clearly and present complex epidemiological and programme information coherently. Solid knowledge of epidemiology of Polio, healthsystem and datamanagement, and otherepidemic diseases of public health importance. High level of interpersonal, networking and cross-cultural negotiating skills. Demonstrated managerial skills and ability to work in a multi-cultural environment. Good capacity of organizing, summarizing and presenting information to different audiences.Ability to synthesize and analyse information from various sourcesAbility to organize and run meetings and workshops
