The World Food Program (WFP) is the top humanitarian agency that provides food aid in dire situations and collaborates with locals to boost nutrition and resilience. The United Nations created it in 1961 to aid in reducing global hunger. 80 nations are home to WFP offices, which have its main headquarters in Rome. The biggest humanitarian organization in the world, it is also the main supplier of school meals. In order to promote nutrition initiatives, policies, and programs, such as school meals and food fortification, WFP collaborates with governments, other UN agencies, NGOs, and the corporate sector.

TASKS

The duties for Advocacy Officer at WFP Senegal are :

  • Help RBD Management to launch advocacy (influencing, positioning) as an approach to promote lasting change and achieve zero hunger in Western Africa.
  • In liaison with HQ CAM Advocacy Unit, roll-out internship in advocacy for RB & CO CAM, RBD leadership, HoUs and CO management based on WFP’s global advocacy toolkit.
  • Help RBD CAM and Management to analyze and identify opportunities to influence regional and/or country-level discourse on WFP areas of interest.
  • Determine policy and decision-makers, and determine moments to influence them either directly, or indirectly through partners, champions, and supporters.
  •  Be up-to-date and report all key stakeholders on regional decision-making processes and fora related to the development and humanitarian-related issues to identify opportunities and points of entry/leverage, alerting relevant thematic teams (Social Protection, Resilience, Nutrition, School Based Programmes, Emergencies), and COs where/when suitable, to enable WFP to influence and contribute to policy discussions.
  • Produce well-researched, exact, brief advocacy briefs on agreed agenda, map out key targets, stakeholders, opportunities, messages, and way forward with specific recommendations.
  • Lead WFP advocacy magazines in the region and provide guidance to COs with regards to events, advocacy industries as well as engagement to ensure maximum reach and coherence with regional and corporate narratives and priorities.
  • Cooperate with cross-functional teams to build strategic partnerships and coalitions – cultivating broader advocacy networks or partnerships with like-minded partners in the UN, NGO, regional bodies, national governments, think tanks, media houses, academia, civil and digital society and private sector for advancing WFP’s causes
  • Mobilize the people through popular campaigns that combine advocacy with social and traditional media outreach to exert influence on decision and policy makers to support of advocacy goals.

QUALIFICATIONS

The requirements for Advocacy Officer at WFP Senegal are :

  • Advanced university degree (Master’s degree equivalent, BAC+4/5), identifiedby https://www.whed.net/home.php in Public Policy, Public Relations, International Relations, International Development, Communications, and or any other relevant field OR a first university degree (Bachelor’s degree comparable, BAC +3) in the same fields with additional years of experience.
  • At least three (3) years of progressively responsible skilled post-graduate experience working in advocacy for policy change, influencing, social mobilization and campaigns.
  • Outstanding understanding of the development and humanitarian sectors, strong portfolio of contribution to successful public advocacy, social and policy change initiatives, and engagement with national governments and provincial institutions.
  • A developed network of transmissions and advocacy partners. Experience working in Africa, especially in west and Central Africa.
  • Fluency (level C in reading, writing, and speaking) in English and French.
