ABOUT UNICEF
UNICEF, or the United Nations Children’s Fund, is an agency of the United Nations that donate humanitarian and developmental support to children over the world. It was originally initiated in 1946 to give emergency food and healthcare to children and mothers in countries devastated by World War II. UNICEF works in over 190 countries and territories to defend the rights of every child, especially those who are vulnerable. Its activities include giving immunizations, disease prevention, and treatment for children and mothers with HIV, as well as strengthening childhood and maternal health. UNICEF relies wholly on voluntary contributions from governments and private donors.
TASKS
The duties for a Consultant at are:
- In concertation with the Technical Management Committee secretariat, gather a list of regional standards including those under growth and assess their validity and alignment to the current global standards. This includes refers standards on the selected fortified food vehicles and types of commercial complementary foods
- Develop proposed criteria and certification mechanisms for each of the foods and build consensus within the community quality committees and develop a detailed work plan to update outdated regional standards for each of the chosen foods
- Provide technical service to the TMC and the relevant THCs to facilitate accelerated review and validation of the proposed criteria.
- Partake in statutory coordination meetings on large-scale food fortification and complementary feeding to provide updates on the progress of growth of the criteria and certification.

QUALIFICATIONS
The requirements for Consultant at UNICEF are:
- An Advanced degree in Nutrition, Food Science and Technology or PhD in Public Health/Nutrition
- A minimum of 5 years of progressive background of in any of the following: food processing industry, food legislation, formulation of standards and legislations, etc.,
- Background of a track record in similar projects in the private sector is an asset
- Outstanding writing and presentation skills in English and or French
- Fluency in English and French is demanded.
