DRC has been present in Sudan since 2004, delivering life-saving programming in protection, emergency response, shelter, food security and livelihoods, disaster risk reduction, camp management, and humanitarian mine action. DRC has implemented projects in Central Darfur, South Kordofan, Gedaref, Port Sudan, and White Nile. Sudan hosts one of the largest displaced populations in Africa, with over 3.7 million internally displaced people and over 1.1 million refugees from South Sudan, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Central African Republic, Chad, Yemen and Syria. Against a background of political crisis, Sudan faces economic and social turmoil, with sharp increases in food and energy costs, further exacerbated by disease outbreaks and ongoing conflict.
Overall Purpose of the Role :
The overall role of the FSL and Economic Recovery Officer is to plan, implement, monitor and evaluate EcRec project activities in close coordination with the EcRec Team Leader. He/she will be responsible for the registration of beneficiaries, training, delivering inputs to beneficiaries, in addition, to ensuring that project deliverables are timely and of good quality. Promotion of community participation and buy-in, coordinating activities with different stallholders including governments authorities, others NGOs operating in the area, beneficiaries associations etc.
Responsibility and Tasks:
Implement work plans for programs according to guidelines and schedules set by the program team.
Strengthen and promote community engagement processes in the project areas, particularly identifying project beneficiaries, assessing their needs and addressing and resolving community issues.
Perform and document regular monitoring of all project activities in close coordination with the project team.
Keep detailed up to date records as per the instructions and formats provided by EcRec Team Leader.
Adherence to all organizational policies and procedures as outlined in DRCs’ policies and procedure manuals.
Promote the production of crops with value addition potential (vegetables, Grains and fruit) through targeted seed and input provision.
Train beneficiaries to establish vegetable Kitchen gardens using the Climate Smart Permagardening technique.
Improve agricultural production through the establishment of demonstration plots
Establish seed multiplication sites to promote improved harvesting and production and sustainable farming practices.
Work closely with beneficiaries in the area of operations on daily basis to identify and prioritize needs and closely monitor the implementation of agricultural activities in the field.
Consistently advise farmers on the farm to ensure best practices and sustainability.
Mobilize community to fully participate in the program implementation for sustainability.
Support improved market linkages and information exchange through value chain research, “pitch” competitions, and start-up grants.
Develop training materials and train the communities (farmers’ groups, model farmers, etc……) on best agronomic practices.
Take the lead in distribution of agricultural inputs including seeds and tools and distribution of Livestock and Livestock feeds through Voucher approach
Ensure that all his/her work follows international & national quality standards and best practices and that agriculture programs are technically environmentally sound.
Experience and technical competencies:
•Degree or a diploma in Agriculture with additional training in agronomy.
At least 2 years of relevant experience in similar position preferably with an international NGO able to work with grass root communities in the field.
Excellent skills and experience in the assessment and supervision of agriculture projects at community level.
Computer literacy with good knowledge of office applications is required.
Creativity in program implementation with a demonstrated pattern of logical thinking.
Sincere and commitment to engaging women in community agricultural initiatives.
Excellent knowledge of English and Arabic language is a must.
S/he must be willing to be based in the field and work closely with beneficiary communitiesher duties as assigned from time to time.
