Background
UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.

UN Women Sudan’s Strategic Note (SN) 2018-2023, aims “to consolidate efforts that contribute to gender equality and women’s empowerment in Sudan”. Key strategies for the implementation of the country programme include capacity building, advocacy, gender mainstreaming, evidence, information and data collection and the use of media to highlight and inform the general population of Sudan. The SN outlines the overall strategy and plan of action for the UN Women Sudan Country Office (CO) for the years 2018-2023 and includes an Integrated Results and Resources (IRRF) which combines the DRF and OEEF, with expected results and targets/ indicators/ baselines.

We are seeking an intern or assistant to support our communications and advocacy efforts, with a specific focus on promoting the needs and rights of women with disabilities. The role will involve developing communication materials, identifying opportunities, and managing the dissemination of information, while ensuring an intersectional approach to advocacy

Duties and Responsibilities
Content Development:

Assist in developing various communication materials, including briefing documents, and articles, ensuring that all materials are accessible and inclusive.
Social Media Management:

Assist in managing social media platforms by creating content, scheduling posts, and engaging with followers to promote UN Women key messages.
Event Support:

Help organize and publicize events, such as workshops, and UN international days (e.g., International Women’s Day), in both online and offline formats.
Stakeholder Engagement:

Collaborate with partners and stakeholders to enhance outreach efforts, particularly in advocating for the inclusion and rights of women with disabilities.
Advocacy for Women with Disabilities:

Support the development and implementation of programmes that highlight the specific needs and advocacy efforts for women with disabilities.
Intersectional Approach:

Apply an intersectional lens to all communication and advocacy strategies, ensuring they consider various aspects of identity and experience, including but not limited to disability, gender, race, and socio-economic status.

Functional Competencies:

Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft clear, concise, and compelling messages for different audiences.
Knowledge and experience in managing social media platforms, including creating content, scheduling posts, and tracking engagement to build a strong online presence.
Background in design using Adobe Suite and online programmes such as Canva.
Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with diverse teams, partners, and stakeholders. Ability to work independently and as part of a team, adapting to different work environments and challenges.

Required Skills and Experience
Qualifications

Education:

Education: In final year of bachelor’s degree in communications, Journalism or related field, or a Bachelor’s degree.
Minimum 6 months of experience in communications, journalism, marketing, advocacy, or related field preferably with international organizations/companies.
Language:

Excellent communication skills (written and oral) in Arabic and English are required.
Renumeration:

Interns who are not in receipt of financial support from other sources such as universities or other institutions will receive a stipend from UN Women to partially subsidize their basic living costs for the duration of the internship.
