The United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organization is known as FAO. It is a specialized organization of the UN that focuses on global initiatives to end hunger through advancing agriculture. The goal of FAO is to promote sustainable agricultural development, enhance nutrition, and support the lives of rural communities in order to create a world free from hunger, malnutrition, and poverty. The FAO offers member nations technical assistance, gathers and disseminates data, and offers a venue for discussion on matters pertaining to food and agriculture. Additionally, FAO is in the forefront of global initiatives to promote sustainable agriculture and fight hunger and malnutrition.


The duties for National Database Analyst at FAO are:

  •  Aid in the creation of database support processes / procedures within the Commission, including for data management, performance tuning, maintenance, auditing, and database security for the purposes of ensuring the stability and performance of production databases and the availability of stored data.
  •  Organize database documentation including data standards, procedures, and definitions for the data dictionary (metadata).
  •  Keep quality control / quality assurance of data in various digital databases / datasets of the Commission.
  •  Use data modeling techniques to analyze and specify data usages within databases to promote process progress.
  •  Analyse data and use storytelling to visually present impactful information using dashboards, charts, and other types of business brilliance.
  •  Assess and make decisions around the use of new or existing data management, storage, analysis, visualization and/or optimization products and tools.
  •  Plan solutions to curate and migrate data from various types of data sources to create a unified data model for analytics and reporting.
  •  Prepare user manuals, train and orient relevant staff on proper usage, maintenance, and management of the databases.
  •  Conduct research and development activities for continued innovation within data processing, data administration and analytics.
  •  Undertake other connected duties relative to functioning of the Database Management Section and ISD.

The requirements for National Database Analyst at FAO are:

  • A minimum of a Diploma in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Sciences, or connected major OR
  •  Relevant Database Administration/Management, Data Science professional certifications
  •  At least 1-2 years experience appropriate to this Terms of Reference
  •  Working knowledge of English is demanded
  •  National of Guyana
