About  People Empathy House Organization – The Khadijah Project:

People Empathy House Organization (PEHO) is a non-governmental not-for-profit organization. PEHO aims to serve the Afghan people and contribute to Afghanistan’s rehabilitation, particularly through the field of mental and physical health, and for the most vulnerable; this includes inmates, addicts, sex workers, the MSM community, and families or individuals who may find themselves at-risk or compromised.

Our organization’s flagship program, The Khadijah Project, serves women-led families towards physical and mental health, and societal reintegration, with an emphasis on the urban poor. We are active in five provinces in Afghanistan and expect strategic growth. We are a young, innovative organization with a workplace that prioritizes reafgspect for all humans, doing good, flexible work styles, personal and team care/growth, equity and affirmative action towards equity, courage, and commitment during both easy and difficult times.

We are currently searching for a talented Finance Manager (woman-only position) able to manage all financial operations, lead financial system design and start-up work, and recruit and manage a small finance team.

Main Tasks:

Producing accurate financial reports and information.

●   Developing cash flow statements.

●   Budgeting; design, reviewing, monitoring, and management.

●   Reporting (budgets, account payables, account receivables, expenses, donor reports, etc.).

●   Audit preparation and response.

●   Financial forecasting; collecting, interpreting, and reviewing financial information, predicting trends

●   Engaging in key financial decisions, prioritizing quality programming, ethical organization and program practices, and value-for-money.

●   Engaging with stakeholders, including executive, team, donors, UN agencies, and the IEA.

●   Developing short, medium, and long-term project development plans.

●   Developing and implementing strategies to minimize financial risks.

●   Developing and implementing measures to safeguard against corruption and fraud.

Reporting: The Finance Manager will be report to the Program Coordinator of the respective project, with a dotted line to the Directors.

This includes staff-staff, staff-anyone, beneficiary-related. PEHO will investigate every reported incident completely, towards the highest internal consequences, and commits to reporting to all authorities with jurisdiction, as well as to donors and other stakeholders depending on commitments.

Bullying, Harassment, Abuse, and Hostility-Free Workplace: In the spirit of Islam, humanitarian, and professional commitments, PEHO has zero tolerance for workplace bullying, harassment, abuse, and hostility, and will investigate and address every reported incident completely, towards commensurate internal consequences, and commits to reporting to all authorities with jurisdiction, as well as to donors and other stakeholders depending on commitments.

Child Protection: In the spirit of Islam and humanitarian commitments, PEHO protects the vulnerable above all, and has zero tolerance for abuse, harassment, bullying, or neglect of children.  We will investigate every reported incident completely, towards the highest internal consequences, and commits to reporting to all authorities with jurisdiction, as well as to donors and other stakeholders depending on commitments.

Protection of Elders, People with Disabilities, Extreme Poor, LGBQTIA+, Sex Workers, Addicts, Inmates, and Other Vulnerable People: In the spirit of Islam, humanitarian, and professional commitments, PEHO protects the vulnerable above all, and has zero tolerance for abuse, harassment, bullying, intimidation, or neglect of elders, people with disabilities, the extreme poor, LGBQTIA+, sex workers, addicts, inmates, and other vulnerable people. PEHO will investigate and address every reported incident completely, towards commensurate internal consequences, and commits to reporting to all authorities with jurisdiction, as well as to donors and other stakeholders depending on commitments.

Protection of Animals and Prevention of Cruelty: In the spirit of Islam and humanitarian commitments, PEHO protects the vulnerable above all, and has zero tolerance for abuse, harassment, bullying, intimidation, neglect of, or cruelty towards animals, while observing humane/halal pet and/or diet practices. Pets are welcome in the workplaces, and sustainable and humane/halal practices are observed at all times. PEHO will investigate and address every reported incident completely, towards commensurate internal consequences, and commits to reporting to all authorities with jurisdiction, as well as to donors and other stakeholders depending on commitments.

Protection of the Environment: In the spirit of Islam and humanitarian commitments, PEHO believes in protecting the planet, and observes and expects staff adherence to sustainable practices. We practice and promote minimal waste, recycling, reusing, eco heating and cooling, composting, family planning, and discerning partnerships with NGOs, agencies, non-profits, and businesses practicing the same.

Whistleblowing/Reporting: PEHO commits to protecting whistleblowers, and to providing multiple accessible lines of reporting and whistleblowing, including through email, phone, text, in-written, and in-person. PEHO understands and promotes reporting of incidents to donors, authorities, and other stakeholders, as deemed appropriate by the victim or witness. PEHO strongly encourages all staff members to report any violations of its policies immediately; those in authority (managers, coordinators, directors, advisors, and board members) will be expected to sign and adhere to mandatory reporting requirements. Anonymity to protect victims is acceptable if deemed necessary by victim, reporter, or designated intake/management.

Main Requirements:

  • Bachelor degree in Finance, Accounting, or Economics, or a closely related field, with at least 3 years in finance leadership or related working experience (if in doubt, please apply). Master degree and 5 years’ experience preferred, and paid at a higher rate.
  • Fluent Dari or Pashto and English.
  • Female only.
