Office/Unit/Project Description
The project, funded by the Alliance for Accelerated Climate Transitions (UK PACT) and with technical support from UNDP, seeks to catalyze Ecuador’s transition to deforestation-free production. It focuses on strengthening national regulatory frameworks and empowering local producer organizations to implement sustainable coffee, cocoa, and livestock value chains in six Amazonian provinces and Loja. It leverages the technical expertise of the PROAmazonía-Payment for Results team.
The project is structured into three main components:
Transformation of sustainable production chains : Training for producers through Sustainable Experimental Farms and implementation of pilot projects to comply with the National Standards for Deforestation-Free Production. Technical assistance is also provided to producers to implement efficient agricultural technologies, promoted by the Sustainable Agribusiness Centers (CAS), with the goal of reducing emissions, conserving forests, and converting land to sustainable production.
Policies, regulations and monitoring : Development of recommendations to the national framework, forest monitoring, adoption of regulations on forest products and legalization of land for communities.
Market access and partnerships : Strengthening producer organizations and creating green financial mechanisms to increase sales, income, and financial capacity.
In addition, GEDSI actions are integrated to ensure inclusion, gender equity, and the protection of collective rights.
UNDP is seeking to hire a Project Assistant to support the monitoring and follow-up of implementation.
Scope of work
Assist in the preparation of the Annual Operating Plan (AOP) and monitor and follow up on it in regular meetings with the team:
- Complete the monitoring matrices for the implementation of the Project’s POA;
Support the development and implementation of monitoring tools:
- Design appropriate qualitative and quantitative monitoring and evaluation templates that improve product monitoring and project quality;
- Incorporate quality testing on project effectiveness;
- Prepare data for decision-making processes;
Provide information and prepare reports on the execution of activities:
- Prepare draft progress report documents and project evaluations for donors, partner institutions and other external stakeholders;
- Apply UNDP and donor procedures and regulations to reporting;
Prepare project progress report documents:
- Collect information and design reports, presentations and memoirs required by partner institutions;
- Prepare communications, minutes of agreement and required documents;
Support the design, development and dissemination of products for systematizing relevant knowledge achieved within the framework of the project;
Assist in the organization of meetings/events, providing related logistical support; and synthesizing relevant information required for such meetings/events; and
The incumbent performs other activities within his/her functional profile that are considered necessary for the efficient functioning of the Office and the Organization.

Minimum requirements for the NPSA
Academic Titles:
- Bachelor’s degree (completed secondary education) is required.
- University studies (Bachelor’s or Bachelor’s level) in Administration, International Relations, Sociology, Economics, or other studies related to the subject of this contract will be considered favorably, but it is not a requirement.
Years of experience required:
Minimum 4 years (with secondary education) or 1 year (with a bachelor’s degree) of relevant work experience, in the following:
- Activities to assist in the management, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of projects
- Experience in quantitative and qualitative research methods
Other knowledge and skills:
- Handling of computer tools (Microsoft Office, Internet).
- Experience in development or international cooperation projects related to the environment or the agricultural sector.
- Work experience in public institutions, non-governmental organizations, or international organizations.
- Database software management
Required languages:
- Fluency in Spanish is a requirement.
- Advanced reading and writing English is desirable.
Availability to travel:
The work will be based in Quito at the project offices, with occasional national travel to project implementation areas when required.
