As part of the implementation of its activities, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Côte d’Ivoire is looking for (01) Senior Driver (M/F) based in Abidjan.
Under the general supervision of the Resource Management Officer and the direct supervision of the Supply Chain Officer, the successful candidate will be responsible for the implementation of IOM activities in Abidjan.
Responsibilities
- Drive the vehicle(s) assigned to the Head of Mission;
- Guide, supervise and organize the transportation schedules of other drivers at the location of assignment;
- Ensure daily maintenance of assigned vehicle(s) to ensure they are in good working order. This includes daily checks of tires, brakes, engine oil, fan belt, etc.;
- Arrange minor repairs and ensure vehicles are kept clean;
- Ensure vehicles meet regular service/maintenance intervals;
- Maintain a register of spare parts for the vehicle(s) and carry out a monthly inventory of said parts;
- Identify the most direct and safest route using the most suitable available roads to reach the destination;
- Ensure that IOM vehicles are only used for official/authorized purposes, as directed by the supervisor;
- Ensure that the daily log is correctly completed and that a monthly report is prepared, summarizing statistics related to mileage, fuel consumption, etc. for the vehicle;
- Maintain a high degree of confidentiality and discretion in discussions involving IOM and its officials. Take appropriate measures to reduce potential threats to the safety of IOM officials and/or property, in the immediate vicinity of the vehicle and along the routes;
- Welcome official personnel at the airport and facilitate immigration and customs formalities if necessary;
- Collect and deliver mail, documents, diplomatic pouches and other communications/items to and from the country office; travel to the post office, airport, government agencies, other UN agencies, institutions, project sites, etc., to collect and deliver items and communications; maintain required records;
- Where applicable, assist country office staff with simple administrative tasks such as making and answering telephone calls, making photocopies, maintaining records, etc.;
- Inform and train drivers on all the tasks and responsibilities mentioned above;
- Perform any other duties that may be assigned.
Qualifications
- University degree with at least 1 year of relevant professional experience obtained in an accredited institution or
- High school diploma/certificate with at least 3 years of relevant work experience
- Valid national driving license
- Proven experience in managing and driving vehicles of various makes and models.
- Experience in minor vehicle repairs.
- Good knowledge of the country’s regions and climatic conditions;
- Practice driving on tracks;
- Good time and priority management;
- Be punctual;
- Good organizational and communication skills;
- Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines;
- Availability to work outside office hours if necessary;
- Knowledge of driving rules and regulations;
- Knowledge of radio, email, telephone and other applications.
The official languages of the IOM are French, English and Spanish.
- For this position, fluency in French is required (oral and written).
- Knowledge of English is an asset.
