CONTEXT AND SCOPE OF THE ORGANIZATION

Established in 1951, IOM is the leading intergovernmental organization in the field of migration, working closely with governmental, intergovernmental, and non-governmental partners. IOM works to promote humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does this by providing services and advice to governments and migrants. 

As part of a project on the protection and reintegration of migrants in Côte d’Ivoire, funded by the European Union, the IOM Côte d’Ivoire Office is recruiting a Project Assistant (Reintegration and Protection), based in Abidjan. 

Under the general supervision of the Project Manager and the direct supervision of the National Reintegration Officer, the Project Assistant (Reintegration and Protection) will support the implementation of project activities in Côte d’Ivoire.

Responsibilities

RESPONSIBILITIES AND ATTRIBUTIONS

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following specific tasks: 

  1. In close collaboration with the operations team, ensure that the necessary arrangements are made for the return and reception of vulnerable migrants with specific needs; 
  2. Participate in the identification of vulnerable migrant cases, the assessment of needs and the development of individualized care plans; 
  3. Provide assistance in the implementation and monitoring of protection and reintegration activities for returning migrants, in accordance with the donor’s requirements and in compliance with IOM rules and procedures; 
  4. Guide and advise returnees on the most appropriate economic reintegration activity, taking into account their abilities, experience and return environment; 
  5. Prior to returns, provide technical support for conducting family searches for unaccompanied migrant minors (UMs) referred by the Sending Missions and assess their living conditions in order to finalize family reunification;
  6. Conduct monitoring and assessment visits to returning migrants in their cities of origin or return;
  7. Carry out any other tasks that may be assigned to him.

Qualifications

Education
  • University degree  in social sciences, psychology, law from an accredited academic institution or in a related field, with 02 (two) years of relevant professional experience, or;
  • High school diploma/certificate with 4 years of experience. 
Experience
  • Relevant professional experience, particularly in assisting migrants;
  • Experience working in partnership with government entities and civil society organizations.
Ability
  • Knowledge of migration, particularly in the area of ​​assistance to migrants;
  • Proficiency in computer tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook); 
  • Good writing and communication skills;
  • Ability to present information clearly and concisely.
LANGUAGES

The official languages ​​of the IOM are French, English and Spanish.

  • Knowledge of English and any other locally spoken language is an asset
Proficiency in the required language(s) will be specifically assessed during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.
