About Aga Khan Cultural Services – Afghanistan (AKCS-A):

The AKTC was founded in 1988 and is registered in Geneva, Switzerland, as a private, non-denominational, philanthropic foundation. It is an integral part of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), a family of institutions created by His Highness the Aga Khan, with distinct yet complementary mandates to improve the welfare and prospects of people in countries in the developing world, particularly in Asia and Africa. AKTC is currently operating in Afghanistan under the name of Aga Khan Cultural Services – Afghanistan (AKCS-A) and is registered with the Ministry of Economy of the country.

Part of the wider development programme of the AKDN in Afghanistan, the AKCS-A has since 2002 been engaged in a range of initiatives in Kabul, Heart, Balkh, Badakhshan, and Logar aimed at the conservation and revitalization of historic neighborhoods, the improvement of living conditions and the development of professional and crafts skills.

Job Description:

General Function:

AKCS-A is implementing several projects in Afghanistan aimed at protecting Afghanistan’s tangible/intangible cultural heritage, and improving living conditions of the inhabitants, as part of a broader process of urban revitalization.  Working within a team of Afghan and international professionals, under the direct supervision of the Security Manager or his designate, the Security Guard will be involved in a range of security and safety related activities in support of AKCS-A’s conservation and rehabilitation activities in Afghanistan.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Protects AKCS-A’s assets in the main office and guest house.
  • Facilitates access to the working site for the missions and AKCS-A’s staff who visit the office and guesthouse.
  • Attends visitors as per agreed AKCS-A’s visitor procedures, guidelines, and SOPs.
  • Ensures 100% ID check of all personnel entering compounds.
  • Carries out search for all non-AKCS-A personnel and vehicles entering the gate.
  • Patrols the compound as per AKCS-A approved procedures, guidelines, and SOPs.
  • Reports any suspicious items or situation in or around the compound immediately.
  • Assists in the recording of arrivals and departures of goods and people to and from site, as required.
  • Maintains the compound clean, tidy, safe, and secure.
  • Operates the generator when needed and in accordance with the agreed SOPs.
  • Is constantly alert to react to threatening situations.
  • Follows the roster prepared by the security team.
  • Perform any other relevant duty assigned by supervisor.

Job Requirements:

  • High school graduate with three years of experience, preferably with an INGO.
  • Military education or services is required.
  • Fluency in Pashto and Dari, English is a plus.
  • Able to read and write.
  • Honest and accountable.
  • Ability to remain calm in difficult situations, ability to travel, ability to learn, physically fit, and have good communication skills.
