About AKHS-A (Aga Khan Health Service-Afghanistan):

Aga Khan Health Services (AKHS) is one of the most comprehensive private, not‐for‐profit health care systems in the developing world with community health programs in large geographical areas in Central and South Asia, as well as in East Africa.

The Aga Khan Health Services, Afghanistan (AKHS, A) was established in 2003 as part of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN). AKHS, A provides health care services mainly on behalf of the government including the Ministry of Public Health’s of Afghanistan’s Basic Package of Health Services (BPHS) and Essential Package of Hospital Services (EPHS). AKHS, A is unique both in scale and scope, delivering critical health services along the continuum of care, from Community Health Workers (CHWs) to ISO certified hospital facilities.

AKHS, A is currently implementing healthcare services in Bamyan, Baghlan, Badakhshan, Kabul and Takhar provinces. The agency’s scope of work includes the provision of primary and secondary healthcare, preventive and curative medical care, Nursing and Midwifery education, Human Resources Development and Hospital Management. As BPHS and EPHS implementer, AKHS, A provides technical support as well as capacity building of health personnel, immunization services, nutrition trainings and the training of Community Health Nurses and Community Health Midwives.

AKHS, A draws on internal and other donor fundings to continue supplementary and complementary support to the national health system. Moreover, AKHS, A has introduced innovations, including, expansions of e-Health services, e-learning initiatives, and cross border arrangements. To promote healthy environment, AKHS, A is also implementing net zero and greenhouse gas emission initiatives.

Job Description:

Main Responsibilities :

    Active participation in inpatient pediatric care, including nutrition and newborn care.

  Actively participate in sterilizing all medical equipment in the hospital.

 Actively participate in the preparation, distribution, and storage of milk for hospitalized children in the nutrition ward, management of mass and emergency cases, triage, performing dressings, administering injections, performing heart scans, and inserting catheters in patients.

 Working with doctors in serious cases such as participating in operations, cooperating with doctors in emergencies and other events that are necessary

  Implementing doctors’ orders Injecting medications according to standard protocols.

 Regularly measure children over 5 years of age to detect malnutrition.

 Responsible duty performance in OPD, IPD and NCO according to duty schedule

  Providing health education to clients according to the monthly time allocation and health education curriculum.

 Regular and accurate care of patients’ treatment based on job responsibility

 Competent and active participation in nurse education and training 

Implement all BPHS/EPHS policies such as regular monitoring of weight and recovery of inpatients, nutrition, IPC, waste management, uniforms, rational use of medications, patient referrals, staff and patient safety, GRM, PSEA, OHS    

 Perform all other duties requested by hospital management.

Duties :

Before the examination :

 Checking the cleanliness of the rooms.  

Checking the purity of the necessary materials.

Preparing materials during work (gloves, disinfectants, etc.)

 Organizing patient admissions based on their priority.

Providing health education to clients according to specific time schedules

Setting up and maintaining a dedicated kitchen for milk preparation.

Maintaining and caring for the Play Room and its toys.

  Ensuring the supply of relevant imported spices

During the examination :

 Providing the patient with complete information about their problem. 

A detailed explanation of the problem to the patient, asking for help from the doctor if necessary.

Accurate and proper dressing, taking into account sterilization conditions.

 Schedule a re-meeting if necessary.

After the examination :

Checking the cleanliness of materials and equipment after each use.

Participating and participating in various trainings organized by the Ministry of Health, United Nations offices, and relevant institutions.

Sterilization :

 Collect all contaminated hospital equipment.

Properly carrying out the sterilization process of medical devices.

Returning materials to the hospital and ensuring that sterilized materials are used.

Job Requirements:

Graduated from public and private secondary medical institutes of nursing

At least one to two years of work experience as a nurse in BPHS/EPHS system hospitals. Preference will be given to those who have worked in the field of nutrition.

Have passed a government exam. 

Having a kind and friendly personality

Sufficient health and strength for work

Has played a worthy and active role in in-service training for community health workers

Required characteristics (sincerity, patience, diligence)

Maintaining order and discipline.
