Aga Khan Health Services (AKHS) is one of the most comprehensive private, not‐for‐profit health care systems in the developing world with community health programs in large geographical areas in Central and South Asia, as well as in East Africa.
The Aga Khan Health Services, Afghanistan (AKHS, A) was established in 2003 as part of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN). AKHS, A provides health care services mainly on behalf of the government including the Ministry of Public Health’s of Afghanistan’s Basic Package of Health Services (BPHS) and Essential Package of Hospital Services (EPHS). AKHS, A is unique both in scale and scope, delivering critical health services along the continuum of care, from Community Health Workers (CHWs) to ISO certified hospital facilities.
AKHS, A is currently implementing healthcare services in Bamyan, Baghlan, Badakhshan, Kabul and Takhar provinces. The agency’s scope of work includes the provision of primary and secondary healthcare, preventive and curative medical care, Nursing and Midwifery education, Human Resources Development and Hospital Management. As BPHS and EPHS implementer, AKHS, A provides technical support as well as capacity building of health personnel, immunization services, nutrition trainings and the training of Community Health Nurses and Community Health Midwives.
AKHS, A draws on internal and other donor fundings to continue supplementary and complementary support to the national health system. Moreover, AKHS, A has introduced innovations, including, expansions of e-Health services, e-learning initiatives, and cross border arrangements. To promote healthy environment, AKHS, A is also implementing net zero and greenhouse gas emission initiatives.
Job Description:
Examine, treat, and care for patients in accordance with the National Guidelines for Treatment and Basic Health Services of Afghanistan.
Monitor and review the quality of work and activities related to patient care in the following areas:
Treating patients
Providing maternity services
Providing women’s services
Child health services
Exemption and EPI services
Health advertising
Laboratory services
Discovery of tracking and treating tuberculosis patients using the DATS system
Pharmacy matters
The gynecologist must also provide appropriate health education to patients while providing health services.
In the event of leave or absence, the health center manager is responsible for supervising the health center, the activities of the branches, the attendance of personnel, and the satisfaction of clients.
Holding weekly meetings with MCH department staff to obtain appropriate solutions and provide professional training for midwives.
Monitoring MCH branch activities and monthly reporting of the relevant branch.
Register clients and prepare monthly reports on branch activities.
Recording and identifying health problems during services and obtaining solutions and timely reporting to the relevant supervisor or manager.
Collaboration and advice for midwives during assisted and mixed births.
Participation in educational workshops organized by Public Health and the Aga Khan Health Services Office.
Mutual respect with personnel and obedience to the orders of the supervisor and the health center manager in accordance with work matters.
Adherence to the principles, regulations, rules, and national policy of the Ministry of Public Health, the relevant office, and observance of working hours according to the seasons of the year, the holy month of Ramadan, and national and religious holidays.
Pay attention to the maintenance and care of the relevant branch’s equipment.
Have sufficient knowledge about the basic health service package for Afghanistan and implement it in practice.
Job Requirements:
Graduated from the field of medical science with a passing score on the Exit Exam.
Having one year of work experience in the relevant field.
Proficiency in reading and writing in Dari, Pashto and other local languages.
Having skills in explaining and understanding.
Having moral qualities (patience, patience, compassion, being cautious and observing all Islamic standards).
Having good communication skills.
