Job Description:
ACDO is seeking an experienced Proposal Writer to support its humanitarian and development programs in Education, Livelihoods, Agriculture & Food Security, Nutrition, and Emergency Response. The selected candidate will be responsible for developing high-quality funding proposals, concept notes, and grant applications aligned with donor priorities and ACDO’s strategic objectives. Key responsibilities include proposal development, donor engagement, technical writing, quality assurance, and capacity building. The ideal candidate should have at least 5 years of specific experience in proposal writing, a proven track record of securing grants from major donors (USAID, UN agencies, EU, DFID, etc.), and strong knowledge of project design, MEAL frameworks, and budgeting. Role and Responsibilities
The Proposal Writer will be responsible for developing competitive, high-quality proposals and concept notes in line with ACDO’s strategic objectives. Key responsibilities include:
Proposal Development & Grant Writing:
- Lead the writing and editing of compelling funding proposals, concept notes, and expressions of interest.
- Align proposals with donor priorities, ACDO’s strategic plan, and sectoral best practices.
- Collaborate with program, finance, and MEAL teams to ensure accurate budgeting and results-based frameworks.
- Customize proposals to specific donors, including USAID, UN agencies, ECW, GPE, World Bank, ECHO, SIDA, DFID, BHA, and others.
- Ensure compliance with donor guidelines, requirements, and proposal templates.
Strategic Resource Mobilization & Partnership Engagement:
- Research and identify funding opportunities aligned with ACDO’s mandate.
- Engage with donors, partners, and stakeholders to strengthen proposal success.
- Develop and maintain a database of funding opportunities, past proposals, and donor requirements.
Technical Writing & Quality Assurance:
- Ensure technical soundness of proposals, incorporating evidence-based approaches and sector-specific methodologies.
- Work closely with sectoral managers to refine technical narratives.
- Integrate MEAL frameworks into proposals.
Capacity Building & Knowledge Management:
- Provide training and guidance to ACDO staff on proposal development and donor engagement.
- Document lessons learned and best practices in proposal writing for internal capacity building.
- Refine ACDO’s internal proposal writing templates and tools.
Job Requirements:
- Minimum 5 years of specific experience in proposal writing within the humanitarian and development sectors.
- Proven track record of securing grants from institutional donors (USAID, EU, UN agencies, GAC, DFID, BHA, ECHO, etc.).
- Strong knowledge of Education, Livelihoods, Agriculture & Food Security, Nutrition, and Emergency Response programming.
- Strong understanding of project design, logical frameworks, budgeting, and MEAL methodologies.
- Strong understanding of local context and provincial settings.
- Excellent English writing and editing skills.
- Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and deliver high-quality outputs.
