Overview of position
Service, maintain & repair all types of electrical installations in a safe, efficient & economical manner, deploying requisite skills & expertise. Working to the highest standards with close supervision to achieve an acceptable level of work throughout while always maintaining quality standards.
Role objectives
Under the direct supervision of immediate Warehouse Manager & in coordination with all Head of Fleet, the selected candidate shall perform the following duties:
Support in the examination, inspection & report thoroughly on the condition, lighting in our clients warehouse premises, including functional testing & the application of computerised service & diagnostic techniques.
Service, maintain, adjust or repair electrical equipment or components utilising the necessary tools, equipment & facilities in a safe manner within the standard job times defined by the electricity board.
Interpret & implement technical service data & statutory maintenance standards to ensure that all work performed are in accordance with minimum requirements defined.
Overhaul electrical components such as alternators, starter motors for both electrical generator power units @ 240 volts.
Apply the organisations policies in respect to electrical maintenance practices & standards to ensure that these are fully implemented & that maximum benefit is obtained.
Execute plans of electrical wiring for well functioning lighting, intercom & other electrical systems.
Install safety & distribution components (e.g. switches, resistors, circuit breaker panels etc.).
Connect wiring in electrical circuits & networks ensuring compatibility of components.
Prepare & assemble conduits & connect wiring through them.
Prevent breakdown of systems by routinely inspecting & replacing old wiring & insulated cables, cleaning circuits etc.
Perform effective troubleshooting to identify hazards or malfunctions & repair or substitute damaged units.
Always use safe working practises & procedures & to comply with the organisations health & safety at work policy. Including the wearing of protective clothing & consideration for the environment.
Share experiences gained with other staff members & strived towards creating good team building & harmonious atmosphere.
Travel occasionally, as required by the organisation & perform any other duties as requested by immediate supervisor.
Performance criteria:
Regular warehouses electrical installations & ensure they are functional & safe.
Work consistently completed to a high standard without customer complaints or repeat repairs.
Assist in overcoming technical electrical problems & is an effective diagnostician.
Project reporting
This role works under the direct supervision of immediate Warehouse Manager & in coordination with all Head of Fleet.
Key competencies
Qualifications & experience required:
Diploma in electrical engineering (high power option).
Held the position of electrician or similar job in a company / Non Governmental Organisation (NGO) with at least 3 years experience gained in the relevant field.
Good working knowledge of the complete Microsoft (MS) Office suite.
High power installation certification from a reputable electricity body.
Experience in generator installation is an added advantage.
Able to use computerised diagnostic equipment.
Other relevant skills required:
Good knowledge about engineering safety rules & identifying the hazards.
Good knowledge about electrical installation & wiring both industrial & domestic.
Good idea about control circuit trouble shooting & identifying the problems.
Good knowledge about high voltages & high current.
Good knowledge about power factor correction & improvement.
Good knowledge about cables testing & selection for the right installation an affordable current.
Having to do generator maintenance, service & its troubleshooting.
Good knowledge about common hand tools & use of the right tools for the right job.
Good idea about air conditioning installation & maintenance.
Good knowledge about crimping, splicing & soldering.
Good idea about Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS).
Good knowledge about inverter & cyclo nonconverters.
Good knowledge about multi meter reading device & mega meter.
Team management
This role has no team management responsibility.
