Job Description:

Job Purpose:

The position’s purpose is to ensure IMC vehicles are properly maintained, secured, and monitored, while ensuring staff safety when traveling in the fields.

Main Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Ensuring vehicle maintained including proper maintenance and lubrication.
  • Driving IMC staff in Afghanistan as authorized by the transport officer or his, her designee.
  •  Ensuring the vehicle is used for IMC official purpose only.
  • Safeguarding the vehicle and its equipment, ensuring, that only authorized persons are using the vehicle and its equipment.
  • Proper maintenance, lubrication, and usage of the assigned driving equipment.
  • Maintain logbook on a daily basis.
  • Ensuring the vehicle is cleaned, serviced regularly.
  • Interpreting for IMC staff as requested
  • Primary responsibility for airport pickup/drop-off for all expat/National staff
  • Primary responsibility for moving the staff /regional coordinator to all target provinces/districts
  • Training other drivers in:
    • Familiar with different INGOs/NGOs offices locations
    • Familiarization of locations (Directorates, restaurants, guesthouses, Etc.)
    • Proper completion of records, maintenance, logbooks
    • Security driving around checkpoints convoys, police military
    • Other topics as assigned.

General:

    •  Ensure the safety and security of all international and National staff.
    •  Informing the security in charge for all staff movements around the city.
  •  Will be stand by security international staff during his/her visit out of the IMC.
  • informing the transport officer of all works and damage to vehicles.
  • ensuring that all vehicles are equipped with seatbelts and that they are worn by passengers and driver while traveling.
  • Driving the IMC vehicle with proper care and courtesy, observing all local traffic rules and regulations.
  • Informing passengers to fill the logbook properly includes registering starting point of travel KM and stop point of travel KM with dates, signature, purpose of travel and other information required in logbook.
  • Ensuring the vehicle is kept refueled on regular basis.
  • Ensuring that the necessary papers including registration and first Aid Kits are kept with the car and kept up to date time to time by
  • To make oneself fully understand for vehicle and vehicle travel guideline.
  • Make sure to be completely equipped with chain, water sleeping bags, extra spare tire, and other necessary equipment’s during winter especially.
  • Avoid breakneck speed driving which totally against IMC rules.
  • Bear IMC driving permit license as well local valid license.
  • Keeping vehicle clean all the time.

Reporting structure:

  • The driver reports to the Transport/log and prepares a daily Logbook of the vehicle use and fuel.

Things to avoid:

  • No CD or video playing during the driving time.
  • No loud or rude noise inside the vehicle, especially with expat
  • Always stay inside the vehicle whenever you’re out of the office.

Job Requirements:

Qualifications:

  • Graduate from 12th class and diploma is preferable.

Experience:

  • At least 3- 5 years post-qualification experience within an INGO or UN organization.
  • Able to communicate in Dari and Pashto.
  • Full familiarity with the context and route of all Northern provinces.
  • A general knowledge of Afghanistan’s traffic rules and regulations
  • Possess a valid driving license.
  • Good teamwork skills
  • A willingness to learn new skills.

Competency:

  • Ability to effectively present information to the immediate supervisors (Transport and Security)
  • Able to work overtime on weekends or holidays required by the supervisor or programmatic needs.
  •  Ability to undertake extensive field trip in Afghanistan.
