The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is a United Nations agency that works to promote safe and orderly migration. Founded in 1951, the IOM operates in more than 100 countries and has a mission to provide assistance to migrants, refugees, and other vulnerable populations affected by migration. The organization works to provide humanitarian and development assistance to migrants, to promote legal and safe migration, and to support the integration of migrants into their new communities. The IOM also works to prevent and respond to human trafficking, and to provide support and assistance to victims of trafficking. In addition to its work on migration, the IOM also provides emergency response and assistance in crisis situations, such as natural disasters and conflicts. Through its work, the IOM is committed to upholding the human rights of migrants and ensuring that they are treated with dignity and respect.
