Job Summary

As a Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) worker, you will be responsible for performing various testing and inspection procedures on materials, components, and structures without causing damage. Your role involves using specialized equipment and techniques to identify defects, irregularities, or irregularities that may compromise the health or safety of inspected items.

Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Method Selection: Determine the appropriate NDT method(s) based on the material, component, or structure being inspected, considering factors such as material composition, size, shape, and inspection requirements.
  2. Equipment Setup: Set up and calibrate NDT equipment, including ultrasonic testing (UT) machines, radiographic testing (RT) equipment, magnetic particle testing (MT) units, dye penetrant testing (PT) systems, and eddy current testing (ET) instruments.
  3. Inspection Execution: Perform NDT inspections according to established procedures, standards, and specifications, ensuring accuracy, reliability, and safety throughout the testing process.
  4. Data Collection: Collect and record inspection data, including test results, measurements, defect indications, and other relevant information, using computerized data acquisition systems or manual recording methods.
  5. Interpretation of Results: Interpret NDT inspection results to identify flaws, defects, cracks, discontinuities, or other abnormalities in the inspected materials or components, distinguishing between acceptable and unacceptable conditions.
  6. Reporting: Prepare detailed inspection reports documenting findings, observations, and recommendations for further action, including repair, replacement, or additional testing as necessary.
  7. Quality Assurance: Ensure compliance with applicable industry standards, codes, regulations, and customer requirements during NDT inspections, maintaining a high level of quality and integrity in all testing activities.
  8. Safety Compliance: Adhere to safety protocols and procedures to minimize risks associated with NDT operations, including radiation safety measures for radiographic testing and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  9. Maintenance and Calibration: Perform routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and calibration of NDT equipment to ensure proper functionality and accuracy, following manufacturer guidelines and best practices.
  10. Collaboration: Coordinate with other NDT technicians, inspectors, engineers, and project managers to plan and execute inspection activities, resolve technical issues, and achieve project objectives effectively.
  11. Training and Development: Stay updated on advancements in NDT technologies, techniques, and methodologies through training programs, seminars, certifications, and professional development opportunities.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional vocational training or certification in NDT methods preferred.
  • Certification or qualification in one or more NDT methods (e.g., ASNT Level II certification) is highly desirable.
  • Previous experience in non-destructive testing or a related field, preferably in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency in operating NDT equipment and interpreting inspection results accurately.
  • Strong understanding of NDT principles, techniques, and applications across different materials and industries.
  • Attention to detail and ability to follow standardized procedures and protocols consistently.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to convey technical information effectively to stakeholders.
  • Problem-solving skills and ability to analyze complex inspection data to make informed decisions.
  • Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement in NDT practices.
