About MEDAIR:
Medair is an international humanitarian organization established in 1988. Medair has been operating in Afghanistan since 1996 with programs mainly in the Health, Water & Sanitation, and Livelihoods sectors with significant reconstruction activities in remote areas. Current projects are Water & Sanitation, Food Security, & Disaster Risk Reduction.
An Integrated Emergency Response: Medair aims to respond to high levels of food insecurity, malnutrition, and morbidity in Tirinkot district. The project intends to improve and extend WASH services including water supply infrastructure and hygiene practices to improve outcomes for vulnerable families.
An Integrated Emergency Response: Medair aims to respond to high levels of food insecurity, malnutrition, and morbidity in Uruzgan, which has been significantly affected by drought and conflict conditions. Building upon Medair’s decades of experience in the Central Highlands and Kandahar, the project intends to improve and extend the utilization of lifesaving preventive and curative nutrition and health services by mothers, PLWs, and children U5; to increase access to clean water, to reduce vulnerability to water-related and other preventable diseases, and to improve and increase food security for the most vulnerable families through food voucher distributions.
Job Description:
Responsibilities:
- Obtain an understanding of the ENC regulations and other policies needing to be reviewed. Medair will provide any other information the incumbent may request in connection with the review.
- Do translation of ENC regulation and other policies into both local languages (Dari and Pashto).
- Read given material and research industry-specific terminology.
- Convert text and audio recordings from English language to Dari and Pashto languages.
- Ensure translated content conveys original meaning and tone.
- Prepare subtitles for videos and online presentations.
- Cross-reference specialized dictionaries and translation tools to check quality of translation.
- Proofread translated texts for grammar, spelling and punctuation accuracy.
- Follow up with internal team members and clients to ensure translation meets their standards and needs.
- Keep data confidentiality and ensure Medair relevant documents are not shared with thirds party.
- Any other reasonable duties, as requested by the line manager
Communication:
Maintain a transparent, honest and supportive communication structure with colleagues to ensure they are kept informed of using the right terms in the translation process.
Job Requirements:
Education: Minimum bachelor’s degree in English, Dari and Pashto literature preferably, or any other field relevant to the position, master’s degree is a plus.
Work Experience: Total 4 years of relevant experience would be required for bachelor’s degree. For high school graduates 6 years of relevant experience is required.
Languages: Excellent English, Pashto and Dari (spoken and written) languages is required.
Computer: Good knowledge of working with MS Word and Excel and experience in using scanners and copiers is required.
