Particip – your partner in change, is an international consulting firm providing services in different fields of development cooperation, among others mainly for the European Commission. The goal of the Afghanistan household health survey 2024 is to provide national level and provincial level population estimates of various outcome and impact level health indicators based upon the performance of the health system in both rural and urban areas of the 34 Afghan provinces. Nutrition anthropometric measurement is a key component of the AHS and will be conducted by a specialized team of anthropometric measurers.
Job Descriptions:
The Anthropometric Surveyor will be responsible for conducting accurate and reliable anthropometric measurements of children under five years of age, as well as pregnant and lactating women, as part of a comprehensive household health survey. The surveyor will ensure the collection of high-quality data to assess nutritional status and support health interventions
● Attend and actively participate in training on data collection procedures and demonstrate competency in anthropometric techniques as well as maintains reliability
● Participate in pre-training and post-training assessments; passing of post-training assessment threshold is mandatory
Respect methodologies and work plan
● Duly prepare for daily data collection before going into the field, ensuring all required equipment and forms are ready and/or promptly communicating any issues that could compromise the quality of the field work to the supervisors,
● Ensure the calibration and proper maintenance of anthropometric equipment in a daily basis before starting the daily measurements,
●Collect anthropometric and other data of selected HH in selected clusters in accordance with established protocols and work plan
● Locate the compounds/households that have been selected for the survey, and assigned to them
Identify all eligible children and women in the selected household,
● Explain the anthropometric measurement process to participants and obtain informed consent,
● Perform anthropometric measurements including height/length, weight, and mid-upper arm circumference (MUAC) following standardized procedures,
● Record measurements accurately and maintain confidentiality of participant information,
● Check completed interviews to be sure that all questions have been asked and the responses have been neatly and legibly recorded
● Upload the data collection into the server configured in the phone/tablets in a daily basis ,
● Go back to households to repeat measurements for data that is flagged as potential error by supervisors and/or central technical teams
● Assist in data entry and preliminary analysis of collected data.
● Daily communicate with the field supervisors/Managers to update them on the status of the field work and all field-related problems.
● Ensure punctuality and active participation during daily feedback sessions
● Submit all completed data collection forms (or scanned copies), tablets/smartphones to the main office after final check if any.
● Keeping the instruments safe and maintaining confidentiality of the data.
● Maintaining equipment and supplies of material needed for data collection in good working conditions and communicate needs for replacements and/or resupplies to Field supervisors/Field Managers in a timely manner.
● Demonstrate integrity with the values and ethical standards of Particip GmbH, and Ministry of Public Health
● Displays cultural, gender, religion, race, nationality and age sensitivity and adaptability.
● Treats all people fairly without favouritism.
● Adhere to ethical research standards and respect cultural sensitivities.
● Collaborate with local health workers and community leaders to facilitate the survey process.
Job Requirements:
● A diploma or degree in Nutrition, Public Health, Nursing, or a related field.
● Experience in conducting anthropometric measurements is preferred.
● At least one year of working experience in other surveys like AHS, DHS, MICS, SMART, LQAS, HMIS verification and BSC & Covid-19 surveys is preferred
● Couples who are Mahram, based on Islamic Sharia law, are must
● Resident of the province is preferred
● Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
● Ability to work in diverse cultural environments.
● Proficiency in the local languages (Pashto and Dari).
● Basic computer skills for data entry into a tablet and reporting.
● Physical ability to travel across the province to visit the households in the province is a must
