Job Description:

Purpose of the Position:

The communications and media coordinator will support the RNT project’s visibility goals, coordinate media activities and radio programs under the RNT, support report writing, and disseminate good practices. He/she will be responsible for communication with media partners on the Search Afghanistan contract.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1.  Provide technical support to studies pertaining to radio reach and impact across Afghanistan.
2.  Liaise with radio stations in the target provinces of Afghanistan, and plan and oversee their technical capacity development.
3.  Oversee radio programs (roundtable, radio drama, and features) led by Search local partners in the target provinces of Afghanistan.
4. Provide technical guidance to Search’s local partners and radio stations in the target provinces of Afghanistan on behavior change messaging.
5. Take part in the M&E of the project as required.
6. Write reports on the project’s progress.
7. Develop material in English and local languages (Dari and Pashtu) for media outreach.
8.  Manage and monitor the social media accounts of the organization.
9.  Write press releases and other media products in English and local languages.
10.  Build and maintain links with local media outlets in target provinces and nationally.
11.  Identify and manage appropriate opportunities to highlight the project’s impact in local, national, and international media.
12.  Link the project and Search Afghanistan with other projects where media is leveraged to make social change.
13.  Take an active part in the development of projects focused on media development in Afghanistan.
14.  Provide support to the program department on the design of visibility products like brochures, information pamphlets, advocacy visibility kits, etc.
15.  Led in Branding and Promotion of Radio programs through social media etc.
16. Provide support to the Program in the organization/facilitation of issue-specific legal roundtables among different stakeholders on behalf of Search Afghanistan.
17. Responsible for the design of the Annual Projection Report in the form of a media outlet for Search Afghanistan – with other departments.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A degree/preferably a master’s from a recognized university in a relevant subject such as mass communication, media, journalism, or any other social sciences.

Experience

  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience in media and communications in a credible local or international organization in Afghanistan.
  • Experience in leading media programs (ideally radio) for social change.
  • Experience in management of social media for an NGO.
  • Experience in layout and designing of print media items for official purposes.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Excellent command of spoken and written Dari/Farsi, Pashtu, and English.
  • Excellent Presentation skills
  • In-depth knowledge of media (social, print & electronic), particularly radio, in Afghanistan.
  • Possess excellent networking & coordination skills.
  • Excellent team-building skills.
  • Able to work with short deadlines and on an ad-hoc basis.
  • Able to work under pressure.
