Duties and Responsibilities

Key Features/Results Expected

The Coordinator of the Gender and Climate Change Program , under the supervision of the coordinators of the Global Center of Excellence in Gender Statistics, and in coordination with the technical team of Programs and Operations of the UN Women office in Mexico and the Regional Office, will have the following tasks and responsibilities:

1.- Program strategy and planning

  • Ensure the development and alignment of the program framework with Mexico’s annual work plan, strategies and initiatives;
  • Coordinate the development of national baselines, milestones and objectives;
  • Participate in regular regional meetings to coordinate national efforts with the regional program team;
  • Identify areas of support and interventions related to the program;
  • Engage in and coordinate regular consultations with key stakeholders, women leaders, human rights experts and UN partners to gather input on program design and implementation.

2.- Program management

  • Direct the technical implementation of the Program in Mexico;
  • Support the coordination and technical implementation of the first of the Program Result focused on improving decision-making at the national, subregional and regional levels through the existence of improved information and data on gender and climate change;
  • Coordinate and collaborate with the Global Center of Excellence for Gender Statistics and regional data specialists on common objectives and activities;
  • Coordinate and facilitate high-level national and regional events, dialogues and training activities;
  • Promote synergies with national and regional counterparts, organizations and initiatives to expand reach and results;
  • Participate in Gender and Climate Change Board meetings, project reviews and evaluation meetings;
  • Guarantee the effective and efficient use of resources for national execution;
  • Supervise and coordinate administrative processes for activities in Mexico;
  • Lead and supervise partner selection and provide technical guidance.

3.- Presentation of reports

  • Develop and apply data collection methods to track and monitor progress on program indicators;
  • Ensure timely completion and submission of monitoring and evaluation reports.
  • Prepare summaries, reports, presentations and/or discussion topics to communicate the results of the program in Mexico. 

4.- Financial and human resources management

  • Manage program budget execution and monitor to ensure timely use of resources;
  • Review financial reports;
  • Supervise and guide national consultants;
  • Supervise all contracting processes related to the national program, as necessary.

5.- Direct promotion efforts, knowledge creation and communication strategy

  • Manage and coordinate promotion strategies in line with program execution;
  • Lead knowledge management strategies and contribute to the development of products related to climate change and gender;
  • Promote the creation of knowledge and the dissemination of good practices and lessons learned on the integration of the gender perspective in institutions related to the environment and climate change.

6.- Promote partnerships with environmental institutions to promote gender equality.

  • Promote partnerships and agreements with institutions related to climate change and gender in close collaboration with other UN Women teams, including the regional partnerships team;
  • Provide advisory services for the development of programs related to climate change and gender institutions.
  • Provide substantive input to regional and national strategic documents, program/project proposals, reports, policy dialogues and other documents related to climate change and gender.
  • Participate in technical assistance related to climate change and gender institutions that are required by the UN Women Mexico Office.

 

Impact of results

Through substantive, coordination, administrative and financial support, the Program Coordinator will contribute to the proper implementation of the Gender and Climate Change program and other activities/initiatives on the subject developed by the UN Women Mexico Office.

Required Skills and Experience

Hiring Qualifications

Education :

  • Bachelor’s degree in science, environmental studies, social sciences, international development or related fields.
  • Master’s degree or equivalent in gender, international relations, international cooperation;
  • A first-level university degree may be accepted in combination with two additional years of related experience
  • A certification in project/program management would be an advantage.

Experience :

  • At least 5 years of progressively responsible experience at national, regional or international level in program planning, implementation and monitoring and evaluation of development projects;
  • At least 3 years of experience working on gender and climate change issues;
  • At least 3 years of experience working in statistics and/or data analysis;
  • Extensive knowledge of international instruments and regional initiatives related to climate change;
  • Experience in developing inter-institutional partnerships and synergies to achieve results;
  • Experience in coordination and collaboration with government institutions and civil society organizations;

Language and additional requirements

  • Advanced use of computer programs such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Oral and written command of the Spanish language is essential.
  • Desirable management of data processing and data visualization programs
  • Having working knowledge of the English language will be an advantage.
  • Having work experience or interaction with organizations of the United Nations system will be valued.
  • Availability to work full time during the term of the contract.
