Duties and Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of the GCC Programme Officer, the intern will be responsible for the following:

Research and analysis:

  • Keep track of the latest gender data and other relevant information in agriculture, food security, climate change, biodiversity, renewable energy, and other green industries.
  • Support the development of project concept notes, policy papers, briefing materials, presentations on gender and climate change related topics.
  • Support the research on China’s climate and environment policies and plannings.

Support programme implementation:

  • Provide administrative and technical support on activities such as the organization and reporting of conferences, events, training courses, etc.
  • Assist in arranging meetings, receiving visitors, taking minutes, etc.
  • Help to prepare documents for programme related due diligence screening, procurements, quotations, etc.
  • Undertake other tasks assigned.

  • Increased knowledge of the technical intersection of gender and climate change issues.

  • Build and develop professional relationships with UN Women colleagues in other units and other UN Agencies.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

  • University studies preferably in one of the following disciplines: climate change and/or energy policy, environmental management, global governance, public policy, or a related field. Candidates outside these fields may apply, provided they can justify in their cover letter and demonstrate competence in the technical test and/or interview.
  • Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); OR
  • Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent);

OR

  • Have graduated with a university degree and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation,

OR

  • Be enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship program which is part of a degree programme and undertake the internship as part of the program requirements.

Language:

  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral) in English are required;
  • Working knowledge of another UN language is an advantage.

Other:

  • Currently based in China (preferably Beijing) is preferred.
