Description of office/unit/project
The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) has been present in the Republic of Congo since October 23, 1976. Its aim is to support the country’s reconstruction and development efforts, and to promote sustainable development through strengthening institutional capacities, advisory services, solid and strategic partnerships thanks to its partner network in 177 countries. As part of strengthening its Operations department, the United Nations Development Program in the Republic of Congo is recruiting a Courier Driver. His responsibilities include driving customers to requested destinations while ensuring the safety of passengers during their travels, transporting mail, documents, packages within the allotted time, and daily maintenance of vehicles.
The initial duration of the contract is 12 months, the extension of which is conditional on the satisfactory evaluation of performance as well as the availability of financing if applicable.
3. Duties and responsibilities
Ensure the provision of reliable and safe driving services throughout the execution of office runs and in-country during field missions. The driver will be specifically responsible for:
- carry out administrative errands (purchasing, dispatching administrative mail, transport of materials) and travel outside the office (meeting, transfer and reception at the airport, etc.);
- lead UNDP field missions at the national level;
- keep the vehicle logbook updated daily, and ensure periodic monitoring of the main dates relating to the administrative and technical compliance of the vehicle (drainage, insurance, technical inspection);
- ensure daily maintenance of the vehicle: cleaning, checking engine parameters and accessories (fuel, oil, water, tire pressure, etc.) according to established standards, and taking appropriate measures if necessary;
- ensuring cost savings through rational use of the vehicle, carrying out regular vehicle maintenance services through the provision of inputs for preparing for vehicle maintenance;
- detect any equipment malfunctions and report necessary repairs;
- ensure the vehicle is repaired by an authorized garage following the procedures in force;
- ensure systematic maintenance of vehicles before and after missions;
- follow specific instructions, procedures and standards for efficient and damage-free use of the vehicle, as well as for the comfort and safety of passengers;
- carry out any other tasks required by the hierarchy with a view to promoting the work and image of UNDP.
4.Institutional arrangement
The Driver-courier will work under the close and general supervision respectively of the Logistics Assistant and the Administration and Finance Officer.
5.Minimum Qualifications
Minimal theoretical education
- Secondary education level with notions of automobile mechanics
- Valid driving license required
- Good knowledge of driving rules
Minimum number of years of relevant work experience
3 years of professional experience as a driver in a public, private, NGO, Project or United Nations structure
Required skills and competencies
- Demonstrate an ability to plan and organize work, and have significant experience in vehicle management;
- Be able to write clearly and concisely and express oneself well orally;
- Know how to communicate with different types of interlocutors;
- Know how to handle confidential and sensitive matters responsibly;
- Demonstrate integrity in accordance with the values and ethical standards of the UN;
- Demonstrate excellent knowledge of protocol (for drivers);
- Demonstrate excellent knowledge of security issues;
- Show flexibility and adaptability to cultural, gender, religion, race, nationality and age aspects;
- Interact effectively both with colleagues, the hierarchical superior and with people with different cultures, good working relationships, while respecting diversity.
Required language(s) (at operational level)
- Good command of spoken and written French, functional knowledge of local languages will be highly appreciated.
6. Voyage
a) UNDP will cover the travel expenses of the person during field missions outside Brazzaville.
7. Composition of the application file:
