Mission and objectives
There are 29 United Nations (UN) entities contributing to humanitarian and development priorities in Jordan, of which 19 have offices in the country (FAO, ILO, IOM, OCHA, UNDP, UNESCO, UNFPA, UN-Habitat, UNHCR, UNICEF, UNIDO, UNODC, UNOPS, UNRWA, UN Women, WFP, WHO, UNDSS, and UNV). The other 10 entities support from regional and headquarters locations (ESCWA, UNEP, UNDRR, IFAD, OHCHR, UNIC, UNICRI, UNCTAD, ITU, and ITC). Seven entities have regional or headquarters offices in Jordan (UNDP, UNICEF, UNHCR, DCO, OCHA, the Office of the Special Envoy for Yemen and UNRWA). The UN in Jordan employs approximately 2,800 personnel, with about 900 being international staff. In addition, there are around 7,000 area staff of UNRWA.

The position is located in the United Nations Resident Coordinator’s Office (UNRCO) for Jordan. The UNRCO aims to maximise, in a coordinated fashion, the work of the United Nations Country Team (UNCT) so that the system can provide a collective, coherent and integrated response to national priorities and needs, within the framework of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and other national and international commitments.

Context
Recently, the UNCT and the Government developed the new UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF) for 2023-2027. The UNSDCF represents the commitment of the Kingdom of Jordan and the United Nations to working together to realize the country’s development potential and accelerate its path towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Focusing on four main priorities, i.e. inclusive green growth and decent jobs; basic services and self-reliance; climate action and sustainable resource management; and accountable institutions, the UNSDCF is fully aligned with the Government’s national strategies and plans and to the Economic, Political and Public Sector Modernization reforms. The UNSDCF constitutes an opportunity to reinvigorate the partnership between the UN and the Government at all levels and to enhance coherence across all UN operations.

The Digital Media Associate will work under the direct supervision of the Communication and Advocacy Officer and will support the office to fulfill its advocacy and communication roles in support of the UNCT and the UN Resident Coordinator. S/He will work closely with the UN Interagency Communications Group, with other members of the UNRCO and the UN family in Jordan.

Task description
Under the direct supervision of the UNRCO Communication and Advocacy Officer, the National UN Youth Volunteer will:

o Support the development and implementation of the UN Jordan social media plan;
o Create content (photos, advocacy images, contests, campaigns, audio, video, infographics, etc.)
o Maintain social media calendar and content plans of content themes and all upcoming coverage schedules according to the calendar;
o Website update and content management;
o Create content and update the UN Jordan’s website and social media platforms for information on key initiatives, campaigns, and international days and events;
o Manage and work to continuously improve the content of the UN Jordan website in collaboration with the UN Communication Group.
o Support in generating compelling digital advocacy content and newsletters;
o Design posters, quote cards, event save-the-dates, digital banners, etc.
o Coordinate vendor relationships as needed by coordinating the design and production of digital branding materials, including infographics and videos;
o Provide coordination support in the development and implementation of campaigns and events.
o Track and monitor print and social media and report relevant information.
o Maintain library/ database of reference materials, photos, and digital assets;
o Provide administrative support in maintaining the day-to-day activities of the Communications Unit.
o Perform other tasks as assigned by supervisor;

Eligibility criteria
Age
18 – 26

Nationality
Candidate must be a national or legal resident of the country of assignment.

Requirements
Required experience
2 years of experience in social media, online journalism, and digital communications;
o Experience in developing and implementing social media plans and campaigns;
o Experience in writing, editing, content production, and information dissemination for online audiences;
o Experience in the use of the full MS Office package (particularly Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint);
o Experience using Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and In Design to produce high-quality multi-media social media content, including graphics, GIFs, and data visualizations is an asset.

Further, the UN Youth Volunteer shall be creative, be able to identify out-of-the-box initiatives, be a team player, be results-oriented, show client orientation, context awareness, and ability to shape his/her work as required by the context and local sensitivities.
Other skills include:

o Good understanding of major digital platforms and proven experience in strategic social media outreach at the international level;
o Proven ability to develop and implement effective social media strategies and campaigns;
o Excellent writing and editing skills;
o Strong editorial judgment;
o Working knowledge of Canva, Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, other design apps, and software;
o Demonstrated event planning skills.

Required education level
Bachelor degree or equivalent in journalism, communications, media studies, political and social sciences, economics, international relations, law, marketing, public and business administration, or any other relevant field.
