Mission and objectives
The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) leads the global fight against illicit drugs and transnational organized crime, with a special focus on wildlife and forest crimes through the Global Program on Crimes Affecting the Environment. Environment (GPCAE). This program provides technical assistance to UN Member States to strengthen their preventive responses and actions in the criminal justice chain related to environmental crimes. Working closely with national and regional agencies, the GPCAE empowers counterparts and promotes the sustainability of initiatives to prevent, investigate and prosecute these crimes. Currently, the GPCAE collaborates with more than 30 countries in the world, prioritizing affected regions such as the countries of the Southern Cone, where great threats are faced by these environmental crimes.
