Mission
Geneva Call is a neutral and impartial non-governmental organization dedicated to promoting respect for international humanitarian norms in armed conflict and other situations of violence, particularly those related to the protection of civilians.
In the context of armed conflict, Geneva Call focuses its efforts on the protection of children, education, healthcare, humanitarian access and cultural heritage; preventing forced displacement and food insecurity; prohibiting sexual violence and working towards the elimination of gender discrimination; as well as curbing the use of anti-personnel mines and other means and methods which are not in compliance with International Humanitarian Law (IHL).
In the Philippines, Geneva Call employs a mix of direct and indirect strategies to advocate for the added value of humanitarian engagement with armed actors, with the aim of preventing protection risks in humanitarian crises. Equipping local stakeholders for humanitarian engagement is equally a centrepiece of Geneva Call’s strategy, which aims for sustainability and local ownership
Role
The Field Assistant will be responsible for operational and logistical coordination of field activities. These will contribute to the development of a comprehensive assessment of conflict-related violence to inform the formulation of contextualized strategies for protection and IHL advocacy. The Field Assistant will also assist in the conduct of data collection activities such as interviews and focus group discussions.
The four field assistants will be based in and focused on conflict-affected areas within the provinces of 1) Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental; 2) Samar, Eastern Samar and Northern Samar in Eastern Visayas; 3) Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur and Surigao del Sur in CARAGA; as well as 4) Bukidnon and Misamis Oriental in Northern Mindanao.
Core responsibilities
Implement field activities, which includes organizing meetings, workshops, and data collection activities.
Fulfill finance, reporting, MEAL, security, and other administrative requirements for project activities such as activity reports and supporting documents.
Conduct frequent field engagement with local partners and stakeholders, including documenting and managing feedback.
Assist the Research Officer in piloting and implementing data collection activities such as interviews, focus group discussions, and gathering secondary data.
Coordinate the organizing of management field visits at the community level.
Support general and overall project planning activities, including security management.
Assist in the preparation of periodic progress reports, and other documentation requirements for internal and external reporting.
Main qualifications
Education and experience
A relevant Bachelors degree or equivalent experience is required.
Knowledge of IHL or International Human Rights Law (IHRL) is a distinct asset.
Minimum 2 years equivalent work experience in field coordination/activity implementation for development or humanitarian projects, preferable in any of the following provinces: Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Surigao del Sur, Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental, Samar, Eastern Samar, Northern Samar, Bukidnon, and Misamis Oriental.
Experience in conducting interviews and focus groups discussions is an advantage.
Work experience in conflict-affected communities, especially with indigenous people (IPs), is an advantage.
Software skills (MS Office, Excel, KOBO, social media, email);
Technical skills
Good facilitation and communication skills.

Espouses humanitarian principles.
Languages
Proficiency in English and Filipino.
Fluency in Cebuano, Hiligaynon, Surigaonon and/or Waray would be an asset
