Mission and objectives
UNDP works in some 170 countries and territories, helping to eradicate poverty, reduce inequalities and exclusion and build resilience so countries can progress. As a UN development agency, UNDP plays a critical role in helping countries achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.

Context
On October 8, a torrential landslide caused material and human losses in the city of Las Tejerías in the Santos Michelena municipality of the Bolivarian state of Aragua. Different agencies of the United Nations System in Venezuela, such as UNICEF and OCHA, were deployed to provide an immediate response to the affected population thanks to the openness of the National Government authorities. The State has begun the recovery process in Las Tejerías. The United Nations Development Program (UNDP), in Venezuela, contemplates within its work areas strengthening resilience to respond to systemic uncertainty and risk, through a coordinated action with the different national entities on which responsibility for said process falls and subscribe to these actions to contribute to the fulfillment of Sustainable Development 2030. Goals. In this framework, UNDP has identified three lines of action to support the National Government through the joint construction, with the Vice Ministry of Risk Management and Civil Protection, of a strategy to address situations similar to those currently occurring in Las Tejerías. , replicable in other municipalities: Axis 1. Support in the collection and processing of data for planning: Strengthen the capacities of the National Institute of Statistics to carry out the Industrial Survey and the processing of various data that are necessary for monitoring goals and compliance of indicators. Axis 2. Economic resilience, for the productive sector, entrepreneurship and creation of livelihoods for the most vulnerable population. To boost economic resilience and support the collection of short-term data to generate medium-term lines of action, a 5-month intervention proposal was developed, before the estimated rainy season in 2023, with a view to mitigating the impact of events of equal or greater magnitude than those that occurred in October of last year. Axis 3. Risk reduction planning and emergency preparedness. As a starting point, the provisions of the Law on Comprehensive Management of Socio-natural and Technological Risks (LGIRST) are considered, which lays the foundations for Risk Reduction at the different territorial levels of the Venezuelan Nation, establishing an articulated work system. with the participation of municipal, regional and national actors. However, the Comprehensive Risk Management instruments and Municipal Cabinets that have been developed or formed require further strengthening the potential provided by the LGIRST, since they could be articulated with State plans and guidelines for their inclusion in the National System.
