CONTEXT:
The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises and helps people whose lives and livelihoods are affected by conflict and disasters to survive, recover and gain control of their future. Founded in 1933 at the request of Albert Einstein, the IRC works with people forced to flee war, conflict and disasters and the host communities that support them, as well as those who remain within their homes and communities. The IRC worked in El Salvador between 1984 and 1992 during the civil war, and left with the signing of the peace agreements. In response to the ongoing violence and dangers in El Salvador, the IRC returned in 2017 to help meet the acute needs of vulnerable communities such as women, girls, adolescents, the LGBTI community, people displaced by violence and people They return to the country after deportation. This program uses innovative approaches to deliver humanitarian programming, primarily through a partnership approach with local civil society organizations as well as the Government of El Salvador.
SCOPE OF WORK:
The Protection Case Manager will be in charge of direct management of cases of population victims of forced displacement or at risk who have been affected by violence. The Protection Case Manager is responsible for providing guidance and directing the target population to Salvadoran public institutions, non-governmental organizations and social actors linked to guarantee the exercise of fundamental rights, as well as the activation of official attention and response routes in cases of violation of rights, seeking their restoration and ensuring their well-being
Objectives of the position:
- Provide case management directly, through direct support to the target population through the development of a work plan to address their individual needs and the safe implementation of this plan.
- Facilitate information sessions on protection issues for the target population.
- Articulate and coordinate with other cooperation organizations, civil society, private entities and institutions offering services, complementarity of services and referral (bidirectional) of cases.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Adhere to the guiding principles of safeguarding throughout all case management and psychosocial interventions. This includes guaranteeing the confidentiality of the information of the target population and respecting their wishes and decisions .
- Develop age-appropriate case management, including assessment of client needs; development of action plans with clients; Support clients in searching for services and support.
- Provide emergency care and first aid to people in vulnerable situations, as well as their family in emergency contexts and crisis situations.
- Maintain effective working relationships with relevant stakeholders, including community leaders and other implementing partners.
- Complete monthly activity reports, in accordance with the guidance provided by Protection Management/Coordination.
Monitoring Responsibilities
- Maintain detailed and confidential case files in line with recognized best practices
- Contribute to monthly reports.
Coordination & Representation
- Direct and effective communication with other caseworkers and service providers as part of individual case management
- Regularly attend field-level case management meetings
Development of the program
- Contribute to the development of activity proposals in relation to case management.
Monitoring and evaluation
- Data entry, updating and purification of information.
- Maintain case files and compile them into weekly reports to the supervisor.
Other Responsibilities
- Other tasks, as assigned by supervisor, to enable and develop IRC programs
Qualifications
- Professional graduated in Social Work or Psychology
- One year experience in humanitarian sector organizations or non-governmental organizations.
- Experience in direct counseling, social work or other related field
- Demonstrated understanding and ability to maintain confidentiality and respect for clients and information provided by users.
- Positive and professional attitude, including the ability to lead and work well in a team environment
- Strong ability to maintain composure, prioritize work under pressure, and work in a difficult environment
- A basic/intermediate level of English is ideally required.
