Mission and objectives
UNDP’s new Strategic Plan aims to make UNDP more agile and anticipatory, including by investing in data and analytics, early warning and horizon scanning, in line with the SG’s and UNDP’s Data Strategies. As the knowledge frontier organization for sustainable development in the UN Development System, UNDP serves as the integrator for collective action to realize the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The Crisis Bureau guides UNDP’s corporate crisis-related strategies and vision for crisis prevention, response and recovery. The Crisis Bureau aims to ensure that UNDP is well positioned to anticipate crises and shocks, and address multidimensional crisis risks in a comprehensive way. To that end, the Risk Anticipation Hub provides crisis risk and early warning support to HQ and to Country Offices (COs) to address their needs in contextual risk analysis.
Context
The Crisis Bureau aims to forecast conflict using publicly available data. A combination of datasets will be used as inputs, with text-based data from news sources as the main predictor dataset. Forecasting conflict will help the organization to anticipate risks and prevent crises.
