Duties and Responsibilities

The Project Analyst covers the following main activities:

  • Provide technical support to implementing partners in the preparation and effective and efficient implementation of activities relating to the two projects mentioned above;
  • Actively participate in the development of an operational plan for the execution of project activities;
  • Support the supervision of implementation partners in the field by carrying out periodic missions or documented virtual monitoring;
  • Ensure continuous monitoring of the implementation of projects through: (i) the production of periodic activity reports focused on results, (ii) the production of notes in the file on all meetings in which he (she) participates or that he (she) organizes, (iii) in collaboration with the UNDP communications specialist, the production of articles on key project activities in order to ensure the visibility of the organization and donors; 
  • Prepare technical sheets, data collection sheets and terms of reference for project activities;
  •  Collect data required for producing results-oriented reports;
  • Organize and participate in project monitoring and evaluation missions;
  • Provide any other technical support for the effective implementation of projects;
  • Ensure the administrative and financial management of projects by ensuring, among other things: (i) the drafting of correspondence, (ii) the preparation/participation in meetings, (iii) the drafting of reports, (iv) the follow-up of recommendations resulting from the meetings and field missions, (v) and financial monitoring of project implementation;
  • Ensure the monitoring of project indicators and the production of evidence;
  • Provide technical support to project implementation partners to strengthen their capacities in reporting and monitoring their work plans;
  • Provide support in the supervision of projects in the office’s Environment and Climate Change Unit portfolio;
  • Contribute to the monitoring and evaluation of unit projects;
  • Support the annual ROAR reporting and monitoring of the office compliance exercise;
  • Complete, at the request of his supervisor, any other task entrusted to him.

Institutional Arrangement

The Project Analyst will work under the direct supervision of the Environment and Climate Change Team Leader. He/She will collaborate with all colleagues from the Unit, the program, the office operations department and government partners, other agencies of the United Nations System and stakeholders involved in the implementation of activities. at the national and territorial level.

Required Skills and Experience
Min. Academic Education
  • Hold an advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in natural resources management, environmental sciences or management or any other related disciplines
  • A final undergraduate degree (Bachelor’s degree) with 2 additional years of experience will be duly considered in lieu of the Master’s degree
Min. years of relevant Work experience 
  • Have at least 2 years (for the master’s degree) or 4 years (for the license) of experience in the field of the environment, climate change, monitoring and implementation of development projects; 
  • Good experience in project management and the application of management and monitoring mechanisms, steering joint interagency projects and/or involving several organizations;
  • Have experience working with the government including the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Equipment and Food Security (MAERSA); the Ministry of the Environment, Sustainable Development and Energy Transition (MEDDTE)
  • Knowledge of UNDP management system, rules and procedures is highly desirable.
Required skills and competencies Knowledge of the development context in Senegal;

Previous experience in the field of environment/natural resource management and climate change;

Good experience and knowledge of the issues of sustainable development challenges and climate change in Senegal and Africa;

Have experience and the ability to develop and maintain strategic partnerships with government, donors, civil society and the private sector;

Skills and experience in the field of innovations;

Excellent interpersonal skills, proven ability to work in a multicultural environment;

Use of office software (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint) as well as collaborative tools (Teams, Zoom, Share drive, etc.)

Desired additional skills and competencies Experience with United Nations System agencies is an advantage;

Demonstrate commitment to the United Nations System and have experience in the field;

Have experience and be oriented towards achieving results and be partner oriented;

Female candidates are strongly encouraged

Required Language(s) (at working level) Excellent command of the French language and the local language is required;

Knowledge of English will be considered an asset.
