JOB PURPOSE
Under the direct supervision of the Head of WFP South Sudan’s Human Capital Development Unit, the Prevention and Emergency Coordinator will lead WFP South Sudan’s Nutrition Prevention portfolio and coordinate the Emergency Nutrition portfolio. The NO-A will work closely with the Treatment of Wasting Coordinator, the SUN Focal Point and School Feeding and Resilience teams on ensuring a clear nutrition prevention strategy is articulated for the South Sudan operations, anchored in a system strengthening approach with strong linkages to food security and resilience. As part of the emergency work, the NO-A will lead improvements in programming quality implementation, ensure guidance and standards for BSFP activities during emergencies and in regular programming, as part of the lean season response.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)
- Lead the Prevention Portfolio for WFP South Sudan
- Coordinate with colleagues within the Human Capital Development Team and with those in the Food Systems and Resilience team to articulate a prevention strategy for WFP South Sudan.
- In coordination with the Treatment Coordinator, support the piloting of the new WHO Guidelines on the Management of Wasting, focussing on the prevention component.
- In coordination with the SBC consultant, formulate key messages and actions for all nutrition sub-activities.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)
- Provide programme quality oversight to BSFP programmes.
- Coordinate with field office nutritionist/focal points, cooperating partners and other CO NU team members to ensure effective and efficient implementation of BSFP.
- Ensure programme coverage for BSFP activities are maintained through coordination with the Nutrition Cluster, field office and UNICEF counterpoints.
- Lead the review for BSFP field level agreements (FLA) with support from the field office nutrition focal points and the FO Nutritionists
- Coordinate with the FO nutritionist in the annual operational planning of BSFP needs.
- Monitor programme activities, and coordinate and participate in joint monitoring visits to health and nutrition facilities with MoH, UNICEF and FO
- In collaboration with the CO Nutrition Logistics coordinator, oversee commodity management and tracking of SNFs for BSFP and alert DHON/HON when action is required.
- Coordinate with M&E on monitoring updates and feedback and follow up with issues on BSFP activities.
- Periodic review and assessment of BSFP performance including achievement of planned targets.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)
- Serve as the technical nutrition emergency advisor.
- Provide nutrition technical advice and guidance to the FO nutritionist/focal points in implementing an emergency response.
- Define, lead, and coordinate capacity building of WFP staff, partners and MoH on BSFP programme implementation.
- Support integration of BSFP data into nutrition information systems including DHIS2.
- Participate in related technical working groups, and other platforms, fora related to prevention of acute malnutrition.
- Contribute to all related guidance revisions.
- Develop and manage procurement of prevention and emergency response related IEC and NFI materials.
- Contribute to building the CO operational research on prevention of acute malnutrition, with support from the Data Analyst
- Contribute to annual, quarterly, and monthly internal and external reports, briefs, activity sheets, and presentations for the prevention and emergency response activities.
STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health Nutrition, Nutrition, Food Technology, Medicine or other relevant field. A Master’s degree in the relevant functional disciples will be an added advantage.
Experience: At least 1 year of post-graduate progressive experience in Emergency setting, SBC, prevention of malnutrition, Nutrition sensitive programme will be an added advantage
Knowledge & Skills: Strong analytical skills with ability to conceptualize complex issues, analyze data, produce thorough reports and Policy recommendations
Language: Fluency in Oral and written English language. Working knowledge of Arabic will be an added advantage
