Mission and objectives
UNISFA was established in July 2011 under authority of the UN Department of Peacekeeping Operations (DPKO). UNISFA is mandated to Strengthen the capacity of the Abyei Police Service (APS) by providing support, including the training of personnel, and coordinate with the APS on matters of law and order, Monitor and verify the redeployment of armed forces from the Abyei area in accordance with the 20 June 2011 Agreement, Provide de-mining assistance and technical advice, Facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid and free movement of humanitarian personnel in coordination with relevant Abyei Area bodies, When requested and in cooperation with the APS, provide security for oil infrastructure in the Abyei Administrative Area (AAA) and later to organize the referendum
The Council also authorized UNISFA under Chapter VII to:
• Protect UN Personnel, facilities, installations, and equipment.
• Ensure the security and freedom of UN and humanitarian personnel and members of the Joint Military Observers Committee and Joint Military Observer Teams established by the 20 June Agreement.
• Protect civilians under imminent threat of physical violence; and protect the Area from incursions by unauthorized elements and ensure security.

Context
UNISFA seeks to strengthen its written content, ensuring it effectively engages targeted audiences on issues pertinent to the Abyei area while aligning with the current news agenda.
The online Volunteer is required to edit written content, conduct research, and produce high-quality written content including media materials, human interest stories, articles and social media content and other communication products that relate to UNISFA’s work. All content must adhere to UNISFA’s branding standards and editorial guidelines.

Task description
Under the supervision of the Public Information Office, the Online Volunteer will work with Public Information Office unit to undertake the following functions:

-Research, write and edit diverse content of up to 20 materials , including articles, media materials and human-interest stories, social media posts, web content.
-Edit and proofread different written materials(up to 20) to ensure accuracy, consistency, clarity, and adherence to UNISFA’s guidelines and standards.
-Verify information of up to 20 materials through research and fact-checking processes, ensuring the accuracy and credibility of the presented content.
-Collaborate online with UNISFA personnel to craft compelling narratives showcasing UNISFA’s impactful work.
-Virtually collaborate with personnel to develop compelling narratives that showcase UNISFA’s work.
-Ensure all content that strictly adheres to UNISFA’s branding and editorial style guidelines.

Expected Output
⁻All the 20 material content must be precise, relevant to the mission and activities of UNISFA, and understandable to the public.
⁻The materials should align with the United Nations’ principles of neutrality, impartiality, and respect for diversity and human rights in public information.
⁻ The content must be sensitive to the diverse cultures in the Abyei area.
⁻The materials should be available in languages pertinent to the local audience, for possibly translations for local audience
⁻ Use compelling visuals, infographics, or multimedia to effectively convey key messages.
⁻Keep all content up to date with the latest developments in UNISFA’s activities.
⁻ Improve outreach effectiveness by integrating feedback received on previous materials.
⁻ Ensure that the 20 materials are designed professionally and conform to UN standards, prioritizing readability, and visual appeal.
⁻Develop or suggest strategies to efficiently distribute the materials to the target audience.
⁻Post-dissemination by assessing how effectively the materials have reached and influenced the audience.

Requirements
Required experience
• Two years of experience in a media or other fast-paced editorial environment
• Strong, and proven, editorial, writing and other communication capabilities
• Exceptional digital aptitude
• Ability to coordinate content professionally with Web, multimedia, communications and social teams
• Detail-oriented, creative, able to work efficiently under tight deadlines
• Proficiency in HTML and Adobe Photoshop
• Web and graphic design experience is a plus

Languages
English, Level: Fluent, Desirable
