OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME
To contribute to the prevention and control of vaccine-preventable diseases (VPDs), with special focus on polio eradication/endgame, measles elimination, neonatal tetanus elimination and rubella control. To establish sustainable systems of (a) ensuring access to immunization against diseases of major public health importance; and (b) integrating vaccine preventable disease surveillance. To promote vaccine quality assurance from production through delivery, including the development of new and underutilized vaccines.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES
Under the overall guidance of Coordinator (IVD) and direct supervision of the Regional Advisor (Accelerated Disease Control) incumbent will provide technical support to Member States by performing the following duties: Review current status of the four objectives ofthe Polio Eradication and Endgame Strategy 2013-2018 in SEAR countries andsupport implementation of specific actions to achieve the objectives, with a specific focus on objective 4 that relates to transition planning; Review progress of transition planning in the five priority countries in SEAR and evaluate against the Polio TransitionPlanning Guidelines issued by the Transition Management Group (TMG) at WHO-HQ;Support the finalization and implementation ofcountry-specific transit on plans, including a plan for the regional office, asper the GPEI Polio Transition Planning Guidelines;Support implementation of all critical activities in the transition planning process, including asset mapping and,development of communication and resource mobilization strategies;Facilitate stakeholder agreement on final transition strategies and the execution of the transition plans;Ensure that the knowledge generated, and lessons learned from polio eradication activities are documented and shared for thebenefit of other health initiatives;Provide guidance for cross-border collaboration among SEAR countries and with other regions, on surveillance and implementation of the polio eradication activities;Provide support to Member States for maintenance of polio-free status and expansion of surveillance of other vaccine preventable diseases;Other tasks as assignedby the supervisors
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Essential: Master’s in Public Health/Epidemiology
Desirable: Knowledge of health management for public health / immunization programmes
Experience
Essential: Atleast seven (7) years’ of experience in the area of immunization with atleast 4years of international exposure
Desirable: Experience of supporting control/elimination activities for vaccine preventable diseases (VPDs);including planning, implementation & monitoring response to large VPDs outbreaks
Skills
Expertise in planning and evaluation of public health programmes, including experience invaccine preventable disease control and immunization

REMUNERATION
WHO salaries for staff in the Professional category are calculated in US dollars. The remuneration for the above position comprises an annual base salary starting at USD 77,326 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable), a variable post adjustment, which reflects the cost of living in a particular duty station, and currently amounts to USD 2507 per month for the duty station indicated above. Other benefits include 30 days of annual leave, allowances for dependent family members, home leave, and an education grant for dependent children.
