Purpose of consultancy
Within the WHO Emergency Hub, the incumbent SSA Driver of the position provides transportation support for the daily activities of the Dakar Emergency Hub, drives official WHO vehicles and ensures that the vehicles are kept in good working order.
Background
The WHO Health Emergencies Program (EPR) helps ensure that countries at risk of and affected by health emergencies have an optimal level of preparedness for key functions of the incident management system of WHO and priority interventions.
The mission of the WHO Emergency Preparedness and Response (EPR) program is to support Member States to i) prepare for and prevent disease outbreaks and health emergencies, ii) detect , promptly report and confirm outbreaks, and iii) strengthen and maintain their capacity to respond to and recover from the negative effects of health emergencies. To facilitate daily travel in the implementation of its activities, it is necessary to recruit a driver. Under the general direction of the Hub Coordinator, the driver works under the direct supervision of the Logistics Manager.
Deliverables
- Drive safely and securely in accordance with UNDSS and WHO standards and local traffic laws.
- Ensure full compliance with all safety, traffic and security regulations.
- Be responsible for the safe transportation of WHO staff in all circumstances.
- Ensure that other road users are not harmed by WHO road operations.
- Carry out field travel – Facilitate the transport of authorized WHO personnel to and from specific locations in Senegal.
- Maintain the vehicle in good working order.
- Carry out minor repairs and arrange other repairs, ensure the smooth running and cleanliness of the vehicle.
- Perform daily maintenance on assigned vehicle, checks oil, water, battery, brakes, tires, etc., performs minor repairs and arranges for other repairs, regular maintenance and ensures proper operation and the cleanliness of the vehicle.
- Record official travel, daily mileage, gas mileage, oil changes, lubrications, etc.
- Ensure that WHO rules are respected in the event of involvement in an accident.
- Advise on vehicle maintenance issues and make decisions regarding unclear trips to be made in the field.
- Make recommendations on the repair status of vehicles that may affect the speed and accuracy of individual works and services, i.e. on the purchase of spare parts and vehicle maintenance.
- Perform any other related tasks as needed.
Qualifications, experience, skills and languages
Educational Qualifications
Essential
- Hold at least a secondary education diploma (BFEM).
- Be in possession of a valid driving license for vehicle (B) and bus (D)
Desirable
- Mechanical maintenance training
- Basic computer skills.
Experience
Essential
At least two years of experience as a driver
Desirable
Previous experience with the United Nations system
