Mission and objectives
UNICEF is a leading humanitarian and development agency working globally for the rights of every child. Child rights begin with safe shelter, nutrition, protection from disaster and conflict and traverse the life cycle: pre-natal care for healthy births, clean water and sanitation, health care and education. UNICEF has spent nearly 70 years working to improve the lives of children and their families. Working with and for children through adolescence and into adulthood requires a global presence whose goal is to produce results and monitor their effects. UNICEF also lobbies and partners with leaders, thinkers and policy makers to help all children realize their rights, especially the most disadvantaged.

Context
The UNICEF Social Policy and Social Protection team’s Social Protection and Gender unit operates at the critical intersection of social protection and gender, playing a pivotal role in advancing global advocacy and providing technical assistance to countries in enhancing the gender-responsiveness of their social protection systems. Through its dedicated efforts, the team strives to ensure that social protection measures are designed and implemented in a manner that addresses the specific needs and vulnerabilities of women and girls, empowering them to overcome social and economic barriers, issues of gender-based violence, unpaid and domestic care work, and impacts of climate change.

In addition, the team is conducting a series of consultations with feminist, women’s and girls’ organizations aimed at exploring the lived experiences of women, girls, and traditionally excluded gender groups with the design and implementation of social protection, through an initiative called #WeDeserveBetter: Strengthening Social Protection for Women and Girls. The consultations will investigate the intersection of social protection and different themes to highlight perceptions, identify perceived gaps, and amplify asks for more gender-responsive social protection.
The infographics designed will be used to present the portfolio and #WeDeserveBetter initiative globally, advocating for the invisible right of all human beings to be protected from economic barriers and shocks throughout their lifecycles. The infographics will enable the organization to better convey this message to different audiences, from other UN agencies to grassroots organizations, contributing to UNICEF’s efforts towards achieving the SDGs.
