 Functional Responsibilities

Under the guidance, direction and general supervision of the Project Manager, with support from the UNOPS Brasil Communication Associate, the Communication Assistant will be responsible for providing support services for the Project’s communication and visibility activities. He/she is expected to support the Project Manager with activities related to communication and stakeholder management. 

Specific responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Support the UNOPS Brazil office in establishing strategic alliances (partnerships) with national and international actors from various sectors, through the coordination of meetings, construction of narratives, among others, with a view mainly to positioning the project and its results.
  • Support the development of strategic communication plans and their implementation, in conjunction with the Communication Associate and the Project Manager.
  • Provide communications support with journalists and press interlocutors, partners and other interested parties.
  • Produce communication materials for multiple platforms and formats (websites, social networks, humanized stories, internal and external bulletins, infographics, etc.), as required by the Project Manager and the UNOPS Communication Associate.
  • Establish and maintain the project calendar of events.
  • Maintain project photo archive and monitor media coverage.
  • Collaborate with management activities and prevention of reputational crises, when necessary.
  • Support the provision of qualitative and quantitative analyzes of media coverage and stakeholder perception of the project as requested by the Project Manager.
  • Support the organization of project events, visits from authorities, press conferences and other opportunities to visualize project results, in conjunction with partners.
  • Assist in the development of technical specifications and terms of reference for the acquisition of services and goods necessary to conduct communication activities.
  • Provide communication support for organizing workshops/trainings.
  • Participate in relevant UNOPS Communities of Practice and other knowledge networks maintained by the UNOPS Regional Office and UN Brazil.
  • Support the incorporation of concepts, principles and best practices of good governance, human rights and gender equality in communication activities, in accordance with the project objectives and methodology.
  • Perform other duties that may be required in accordance with the scope of activities described above.

  • Provide support in communications with journalists and press interlocutors, partners and other interested parties.
  • Produce communication materials for multiple platforms and formats (websites, social media, humanized stories, internal and external newsletters, infographics, etc.), as required by the UNOPS Project Director and Communications Associate.
  • Establish and maintain the project events calendar.
  • Maintaining a photographic archive of the project and monitoring media coverage.
  • Collaborate in reputation crisis management and prevention activities, when necessary.
  • Support the performance of qualitative and quantitative analyzes of media coverage and perception of the project by interested parties, at the request of the Project Director.
  • Support the organization of events related to the project, visits from authorities, press conferences and other opportunities to publicize the results of the project, in collaboration with partners.
  • Assist in the preparation of technical specifications and terms of reference for the acquisition of services and goods necessary to carry out communication activities.
  • Provide communication support for the organization of workshops/training.
  • Participate in relevant UNOPS Communities of Practice and other knowledge networks maintained by the UNOPS Regional Office and UN Brazil.
  • Support the incorporation of concepts, principles and best practices of good governance, human rights and gender equality in communication activities, in accordance with the project objectives and methodology.
  • Perform other duties as may be necessary in accordance with the scope of activities described above.
 Education/Experience/Language requirements

The formation

  • High school education is required. A bachelor’s degree will be considered an advantage.
  • Bachelor’s degree or technical certification in communications (media studies, journalism, marketing and communications-related fields) will be considered an advantage and may replace some of the required years of experience. 

B. Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of accumulated experience in the area of ​​Communication and Operations, preferably in international organizations and/or educational institutions.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience supporting the implementation of communication plans for impact projects and/or initiatives.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience supporting press and/or political advisory activities. 
  • It is essential to have excellent communication, good writing and good analytical skills.
  • Documented experience in creating and distributing electronic newsletters and/or producing content for websites and social media will be an advantage.
  • Previous experience with image crisis management will be considered an advantage.
  • Experience with video production will be an advantage.

C. Languages

  • Fluency in Portuguese.
  • Advanced knowledge of Spanish (written and spoken).
