OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME

The mission of the WHO Health Emergencies Program is to support countries and coordinate international action to prevent, prepare for, rapidly detect, respond to and recover from epidemics and emergencies.

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

The main objective of this position is to ensure and coordinate the development and writing of technical documents, reports, presentations, summaries, monitoring notes related to the strategic and operational activities of the Dakar regional emergency hub. The expert recruited for this position will also support the external communication activities of the initiatives, actions and impacts carried out by the WHO regional emergency hub in Dakar, using social media and also interacting with the organs of national and international press.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

Under the supervision of the Dakar Hub coordinator and in collaboration with the lead teams of the different hub programs, the incumbent will support the areas of work of these programs in terms of writing technical documents, reports as well as in the activities external communication. The incumbent will work closely with all programs (EMR, EMP, OSL, HIR and STS) in identifying and responding to operational challenges.

More specifically, the selected person will be in charge of the following tasks:

o    Coordinate and monitor actions related to the design and development of the various documents (reports, presentations, publication) of the hub and its organizational components

o    Accompany and support the hub’s external communications activities in close collaboration with the communications teams of the WHO regional office.

o    Support and work in close collaboration with the emergency teams of the WHO country offices covered by the Dakar hub in building capacities for the analysis and documentation of public health actions.

o    Develop and manage a database and documentation on health emergencies for the sub-region.

o    Ensure the dissemination of best practices and lessons learned in public health emergency management to WHO offices, member states and partners.

o    Liaising with the various program managers, support and work with the communications team in providing the updated data and information needed for media briefs, Regional Director talking points, etc.

o    Support various programs of the Dakar Hub in the organization of support interventions to the country offices in West and Central Africa, particularly in terms of research, training, capacity building, etc.

o    Perform any other related tasks required by the functional supervisor​​.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION

*Essential

o   University degree in public health, epidemiology, communications or a related field.

Desirable

Having a PhD will be an additional asset

EXPERIENCE

Essential

o   A minimum of 2 years of related experience, nationally and internationally, in organizations involved in development or emergencies, with proven experience in the design and development of quality documents as well as communication with the media.

o   Significant experience in writing technical documents and reports in public health.

o   Significant experience in communication activities with national and international written, spoken media

*Desirable

o   Relevant professional experience in research and academic communication.

  • Good knowledge and use of social media, national and international written and spoken media.

o   Knowledge of Microsoft Office software.

Location : The position is based in Dakar, Senegal

Voyage:

All official travel carried out by staff during the exercise of their mission will be the responsibility of the WHO.

Remuneration 

XOF 1,405,000 per month or 16,860,000 per year.
