Job description

Overview of position
  • The ongoing conflict in Yemen has caused significant disruptions to the supply chain & to the overall availability of services. In light of the reduced or even absent provision of public services, communities have adopted various coping strategies, including using alternate water & energy sources, relying on alternate service providers & community based service delivery initiatives to address the shortfall.
  • Under the direct supervision of the Project Manager, the project team will be responsible for all communications aspects of the project & will work in close collaboration with the project team at our clients side.
Role objectives The Communication Officer will be based in Yemen under the direct supervision of the Project Manager, accordingly the incumbent will be required to perform the following duties & responsibilities:

Stakeholder management:

  • Assist in establishing & cultivate partnerships with the key national, regional & local media.
  • Assist in developing reports & presentations about our clients activities for their key stakeholders.
  • Provide the media (photos  videos, infographics) to the team to be shared with donor & stakeholders.

Delivery & performance:

  • Travel to the project sites to document the progress (photography) & update the project photo library regularly.
  • Prepare briefing materials, analysis of political, socio & economic trends relevant for KFW project in Yemen.
  • Assist to develop a communications strategy for project, covering both internal & external communications, ensure & contribute to the development, implementation & evaluation of the communication strategies & the internal & external communications plans.
  • Conduct activities related to the visibility & publicity of KfW project Yemen.
  • Support the organization of the officials visits, press conferences & public events.
  • Provide communication support for KfW project’s trainings & workshops.
  • Liaise & supervise the Graphic Designers’ work on visibility / promotional material & ensure or enhance he quality & relevance of country specific communication materials, activities, processes & messages or sharing with partners.
  • Assist in preparing briefings, presentations & background materials for the Project Manager.
  • Assist in provide substantive content for the project report, highlighting project achievements & other relevant evidence based information generating through monitoring process.
  • Produce fact sheets on specific projects with success stories of KFW projects in Yemen.
  • Ensure a well maintained & continually developed contact list of individuals, groups, organizations (including government, UN & bilateral counterparts) for purposes of communication.
  • Ensure gender mainstreaming, gender equality & diversity principles & practices are incorporated into the communications products, in accordance with our clients objectives.

Procedures:

  • Ensure respect of project management, procurement & communications requirements / procedures.
  • Ensure efficient & effective management of the communications budget & in compliance with UNOPS Financial Rules & Regulations (FRR).
  • Assist in contributing to planning activities & timely delivery of approved work, procurement & financial plans for the communications activities.
  • Assist to provide accurate & quality inputs needed for monitoring of the projects’ performance, outputs , benefits & reports.
Project reporting
  • This role reports to the line manager.
Key competencies
  • Bachelors degree is required preferably in communications, journalism, public relations, interrnational development, linguistics, social science, business administration or international relations with 2 years of experience in a communication, public relations, journalism or a related role is required.
  • Experience in photography, external relations, communications, advocacy, business administration & / or outreach in international organizations is desired.
  • Experience in producing analytical reports & communications products is required.
  • Experience in the humanitarian & / or development sector is desired.
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Adobe Creative Suite including Photoshop, Lighroom, Illustrator, InDesign, remiere Pro Audition & after effects, Excel, Visio & PowerPoint is required.
  • Ability to analyze online communications using performance indicators is desirable.
  • Knowledge of digital media, visual communications & interactive storytelling methods is desirable.
  • Fluency in spoken & written English & Arabic is required.
