Context
UNFPA is the United Nations sexual and reproductive health agency that works to achieve three transformative results by 2030: end the unmet need for family planning, end preventable maternal deaths, and end gender-based violence and harmful practices. This OV assignment is part of UNFPA’s programmes work to ensure that women, adolescents, young people and marginalized groups, including persons with disabilities, live free of gender-based violence. UNFPA implements GBV programmes in more than 150 countries globally, including research initiatives and response programmes. Costing exercises are useful tools for advocacy, to encourage investment in GBV services and prevention programmes. Some UNFPA country offices are conducting costing exercises based on the Costing Tool developed as part of the Essential Services Package (ESP), while other offices are working on estimating the cost of GBV for societies and the economic cost of inaction. The mapping of GBV costing initiatives specifically will contribute to support knowledge management on this area of work, across the organization and with other relevant stakeholders.
