Background

Drawing on the diversity of UNDP’s client needs and partnerships, the Office of Human Resources (OHR) is the hub for the global HR function for UNDP, providing strategy, policy setting, guidance and oversight. In addition, OHR provides a broad range of HR advisory and talent management services enabling UNDP to deliver fully integrated development solutions at corporate level. In this context, OHR is focused on the implementation of an ambitious and forward-looking three-year strategy, People for 2030, which will progressively transform UNDP’s culture and enable its workforce capacity to deliver more and better results.

Through People for 2030, OHR aims to be at the leading edge of HR in the international development sector by developing high quality and innovative human resources solutions to enable driving transformation across UNDP.  In this context and under the supervision of the Senior HR Business Partner, the Human Resources (HR) Intern  will support various Central or Regional Bureau BP teams for delivering a range of strategic HR services in Talent Management, workforce analytics, HR performance monitoring and staff engagement, to UNDP clients aimed to ensure that Bureaus and Offices can attract and effectively manage talent in the culture of high performance, innovation and informed risk-taking. The incumbent will collaborate with other OHR teams to provide efficient client-specific HR solutions that are fair, consistent, objective and consistent with the policies and procedures of UNDP.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

1) Delivery of Recruitment Service

  • Engage with HR Business Partners to implement HR policies and procedures at UNDP including UN staff rules, UNDP recruitment practices, personnel contract modalities and talent management systems;
  • Work closely with the Central Recruitment Unit to provide recruitment services to requesting hiring offices including recruitment planning, job classification;
  • Updating recruitment tables;
  • Assist with the corporate reassignment exercises.

2) Workforce Analytics and Staff Engagement

  • Generate workforce data and conduct data analysis based on specific HR needs;
  • Prepare HR reports, presentations, briefing notes based on the analysis of the workforce;
  • Study and analyze the results of global/regional HR surveys and contribute to staff engagement initiatives.

3) Performance Management and Career Support

  • Support annual performance evaluation, generate completion reports and monitor performance compliance;
  • Follow up with regional bureaus and country office management for compliance and provide performance development guidance;
  • Assist with the Talent Management Review Group and Talent Review meetings and record keeping for effective follow up;
  • Preparation and dissemination of Certificates of Special Recognition for staff selected for such. Ensure copies uploaded to PMD system.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

Applicants to the UNDP Internship Programme must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:

  • Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (Master’s Degree programme or higher), preferably in the following areas of study such as Human Resources Management, Management, Business Administration, Public Administration, Organization Psychology, Psychology, Sociology, Economics, Development Economics, International Relations, Organizational Development or any related fields;
  • Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degre programme (minimum Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent) in area of study such as  Human Resources Management, Management, Business Administration, Public Administration, Organization Psychology, Psychology, Sociology, Economics, Development Economics, International Relations, Organizational Development or any related fields;
  • Have recently graduated with a university degree (as defined in (a) and (b) above) and if selected must start the internship within one year of graduation.
  • Be enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship program and undertake the internship as part of this programme.

Language Requirements:

  • Proficiency in the English language, both oral and written, is required.
  • Working knowledge of another UN language is an advantage.

Conditions of the Internship:

  • UNDP internship programme does not provide a salary or remuneration for the internship;
  • UNDP offers a monthly stipend to help cover basic daily expenses related to the internship, such as meals and transportation at the duty station;
  • All other expenses connected with the internship will be born by the intern, sponsoring Government or institution;
  • UNDP accepts no responsibility for costs arising from accidents and/or illness or death incurred during the internship;
  • The intern is responsible for obtaining necessary visas and arranging travel to and from the duty station where the internship will be performed;
  • Interns are not eligible to apply for, or be appointed to, any post in UN during the period of the internship;
  • The intern must provide proof of enrollment in health insurance plan;
  • Interns are not staff members and may not represent UNDP in any official capacity.
