OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST
Under the overall authority of the Director of UNESCO New Delhi Office and the direct supervision of the Finance and Administrative Officer of UNESCO New Delhi, the incumbent will serve as “Senior Driver” and will be responsible for the following duties:
Long Description
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ensure the provision of safe and reliable driving services. Drive the Office Director, senior-level officials, and other authorized personnel and visitors. Meet and greet officials and visitors at the airport including assisting, where necessary, with protocol, visa, and customs formalities.
- Confer with supervisor concerning effective and efficient fleet management and matters pertaining to traffic and safety regulations, office regulations with respect to vehicles and equipment, and safety and conservation measures.
- Coordinate routes and, where appropriate, schedules on a daily basis.
- Ensure cost savings through proper use of vehicle and accurate maintenance of daily vehicle logs, preparation of the vehicle maintenance plans, and maintaining documentation.
Long Description
- Ensure proper day-to-day maintenance of assigned vehicles through timely minor repairs, arrangements for major repairs, timely changes of oil, check of tires, brakes, and water levels, car washing, etc., and to keep the vehicle clean and in good running condition at all times.
- Ensure availability of all the required documents/supplies including vehicle insurance, vehicle registration, vehicle logs, office directory, map of the city/country, first aid kit and other MOSS-compliant equipment, and necessary spare parts in assigned vehicles.
- Inform the supervisor in a timely manner of (re)registrations and insurance procedures for all the office vehicles.
Long Description
- Assist office staff in filing, photocopying, and maintaining stores. Assist in the mailing, collection, and distribution of documents and publications including to ministries and banks. Arrange to pay office telephone and other bills.
- Perform other relevant duties as assigned.
COMPETENCIES (Core / Managerial)
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education
- Completed secondary, technical and/or vocational education.
- A valid driving license is required.
Work Experience
- Minimum 2 years of relevant work experience as a driver in an international organization, embassy, or UN system with a safe driving record.
Skills and Competencies
- Good knowledge of diplomatic protocols, courtesies, and security issues.
- Ability to present a professional image at all times.
- Ability to deal calmly with unexpected circumstances or delays.
- Excellent knowledge of local driving rules and regulations and demonstrate good road etiquette.
- Good knowledge of local roads and conditions.
- Good knowledge of maintenance of vehicles and knowledge of mechanics and repair of vehicles.
- Ability to use GPS and basic computer skills to record information in IT systems.
- Sensitivity to diversity.

- Discretion and respect for confidentiality.
- Ability to work in a multicultural environment and to demonstrate gender-sensitive and non -discriminatory behavior and attitudes.
Languages
- Excellent knowledge of English and the local language (i.e., Hindi).

Work Experience
- The international driving experience.

- Knowledge and ability to operate office equipment and computer literacy.
Languages
- Working knowledge of another official UNESCO language (French, Arabic, Chinese, Russian, Spanish).
BENEFITS AND ENTITLEMENTS
UNESCO’s salaries consist of a basic salary and other benefits which may include if applicable: 30 days annual leave, family allowance, medical insurance, pension plan etc.
The approximate annual starting salary for this post is INR 590 950.
