UNOPS Madagascar provides services through its main office based in Antananarivo and has opened branch offices in several regions of the country after projects covering these regions were signed. The UNOPS office responds to the support needs of the Government of Madagascar through funding from multilateral and bilateral donors. UNOPS Madagascar provides a wide range of infrastructure procurement and implementation services and aims to extend its support to diversified projects, provision of basic services and other related services, particularly in economic and social infrastructure (construction and rehabilitation) and financial management in sectors such as agriculture, transport/public works, sanitation, health, environment and the fight against climate change.

Under the supervision of the Logistics Officer, the Driver (Logistics) has a customer-oriented approach, a high sense of responsibility, courtesy, tact and the ability to work with people of different national and cultural origins .

The driver (logistics) may often be required to travel in complex and difficult environments with limited resources.

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Administrative Assistant (Logistics), the driver (Logistics) must:

  • Providing reliable and safe driving 
  • Maintain assigned vehicles
  • Track vehicle parts
  • Support support teams

1- Provide reliable and safe driving 

  • Provide transportation for authorized personnel
  • Provide shuttles to/from the airport for staff for official missions
  • Ensure the management of teams for project missions

2- Maintain assigned vehicles

  • Ensure daily maintenance of the assigned vehicle by checking cleanliness (washing and cleaning interior and exterior), safety (condition of mechanics and tires), gasoline, water, battery, brakes, fuel levels oil and liquid…
  • Ensure daily repairs to the assigned vehicle by carrying out small repairs on time and planning major repairs, oil changes, tire pressure, etc.

3- Monitor the validity of documents and pieces

  • Guarantee the availability and validity of all required documents/supplies, including vehicle insurance, stickers, technical inspection, logbook, office directory, city/country map, first aid kit, and basic spare parts, 
  • Provide advice regarding local traffic laws 

4- Ensure compliance with regulations in force

  • Ensure that immediate action as required by regulations is taken in the event of involvement in an accident
  • Provide advice regarding local traffic laws 

5- Support support teams

  • Facilitate immigration and customs formalities, if necessary 
  • Ensure the collection and distribution of mail and/or documents and/or any other items
  • Assist the Support Department in receiving inspection reports, setting up or verifying storage devices and maintaining inventory records 
  • Assist the Purchasing unit in obtaining quotes or specifications, etc. 
  • Assist in arranging customs clearance of shipments through preparation of tax exemption certificates, obtaining necessary customs clearances and permits from government
  • Assist in the improvement and maintenance of office premises, vehicles, furniture, equipment and common areas 
  • Provide support for office tasks (photocopying, scanning, etc.) 
  • Work independently in the absence of supervision
  • Accomplish any other tasks that are requested.
 Education/Experience/Language requirements

Formation

  • A high school diploma is required


Experience

  • Having a minimum of 3 years of professional driving experience is required for candidates with a high school diploma
  • Having a valid Category B driving license is required
  • Training and/or experience in mechanics is an asset
  • Training and/or experience in archiving or general administration is an asset
  • Having experience using IT tools is an asset
  • Having knowledge of exemption and customs clearance procedures would be an asset
  • Having work experience within the United Nations system, donors or NGOs would be an asset
  • Having completed first aid training is an asset

Linguistic knowledge

Being able to speak, write and read the French language fluently is required
