Job description

CTG overview CTG staff and support humanitarian projects in fragile and conflict-affected countries around the world, providing a rapid and cost-effective service for development and humanitarian missions. Overview of position The contracted personnel will be required to maintain the United Nations satellite network infrastructure that connect the mission to United Nations Global Service Center (UNGSC) or other locations.
Role objectives Responsibilities include:

  • Plan, test, install & maintain the United Nations satellite communication systems.
  • Monitor & control, real time troubleshooting for RF terminals, modems, multiplexes & software problems associated to VSAT network operations.

The equipment the staff would be tasked to install, operate & maintain includes but is not limited to:

  • A full range of C – band, Ka band & KU – band satellite earth stations.
  • The earth station include VSAT & standard terminals, both fixes & transportable.
  • The sizes of  the VSAT range from 1.8 Mts to 4.9 Mts., different models as offsets Gregorian.
  • The standards terminal are 7.3 Mts. & 9.3 Mts. Cassagrain Antennas.

Working knowledge of:

  • Satellite C – band, Ka band & Ku – band RF terminals as HPA’s, SSPA’s, RF convertors, up / down convertors, transceivers, LNA, LNB & LNC.
  • Hands on familiarity with satellite terminals & related electronics equipment.
  • Experience in test equipment as spectrum analyzer, power & frequency Counter, data comms test set.
  • Experience uninterruptible power supply & online power supply.
  • Experience in Intelsat SSOG 311 line – up procedures.
  • Willing to be on all 24 x 7 & travel in short notice.
  • Knowledgeable in data communications protocols.

The list of duties the staff would be expected to perform under duress include, but is not limited to:

  • Satellite earth station installations, with include construction & verification test with Intelsat standards.
  • All cabling necessary, including outside plant, to interconnect the Earth station to IP network & other data terminal equipment.
  • Maintenance of the cabling plant for the earth station.
  • Maintenance & operation of the earth station.

Other responsibilities:

  • Provide product specific training whenever required.
  • Be on call & provide 24 x 7 support to troubleshoot issues or problems when required especially during crisis & emergency situations.
  • Perform any other ICT duties & tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
Project reporting The Satellite Infrastructure Support will be working under the direct supervision of the Satellite Unit Supervisor in UNMISS, Republic of South Sudan.
Key competencies Standard:

  • Degree or diploma in electronic, telecommunication engineering, computer engineering, computer science, information technology or other related field.
  • Must have at least 3 years of working experience relating to the required technical knowledge written above.
  • Global VSAT forum certification such as GVF500, GVF GVF510, GVF731, GVF732 & GVF 733 are required.
  • One or more years of experience working with O3B satellite systems equipment is desirable.
  • Computer literate with proficiency in MS Office Suite & others.
  • Must have a national driver’s license & able to drive a light motor vehicle with manual transmission.
  • Must be fluent in English, both written & oral.

Advanced:

  • Degree or diploma in electronic, telecommunication engineering, computer engineering, computer science, information technology, or other related field.
  • Must have at least 5 years of working experience relating to the required technical knowledge written above.
  • GVF certification: GVF500, GVF510, GVF731, GVF732 & GVF 733 are required.
  • One or more years of experience working with O3B satellite systems equipment is an added advantage.
  • ITIL Foundation & PRINCE2 Foundation certifications are desirable.
  • Computer literate with proficiency in MS Office Suite & others.
  • Experience in South Sudan is desirable.
  • Must have a national driver’s license & able to drive a light motor vehicle with manual transmission.
  • Must be fluent in English, both written & oral.

Expert:

  • Degree or diploma in electronic, telecommunication engineering, computer engineering, computer science, information technology, or other related field.
  • Must have at least 8 years of working experience relating to the required technical knowledge written above.
  • GVF certification such as GVF500, GVF510, GVF 530, GVF 531, GVF532, GVF731, GVF732 & GVF 733 are required.
  • GVF 521, GVF 522 are desirable.
  • One or more years of experience working with O3B satellite systems equipment is an added advantage.
  • ITIL Foundation & PRINCE2 Foundation certifications are required.
  • Computer literate with proficiency in MS Office Suite & others.
  • Experience in South Sudan is desirable.
  • Must have a national driver’s license & able to drive a light motor vehicle with manual transmission.
  • Must be fluent in English, both written & oral.
