Background

The United Nations System Coordination Division, coordinates and promotes the accountability of the United Nations system in its work on gender equality and the empowerment of women at the global, regional, and country levels. Through a dedicated portfolio on disability inclusion and intersectionality (DIIP), it contributes to gender equality and empowerment of women and girls with disabilities.
The main objective of this consultancy is to provide International Sign (IS) interpreting services for the events envisioned under activities of Disability Inclusion and Intersectionality Portfolio (DIIP).
The consultant will be reporting to UN Women’s Global Advisor, Gender and Disability Inclusion, and will be supported by Administrative Associate, who will be the point of contact on the contract and payment issues.
Duties and Responsibilities
Deliverables
The specific objective of this assignment is to provide simultaneous IS interpreting during live online events (webinars, meetings, workshops or similar). The online events are envisioned to be few hours long.
Scope of Work
Providing simultaneous IS interpreting (from English/to English) during online events using Zoom, MS Teams or similar platforms.

This is a home-based consultancy.

Required Skills and Experience
Education and Certification:
- Master’s degree in Translation, social sciences or other relevant field.
- A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
- A certificate in International Sign (IS) will be considered an asset.
Experience:
- Minimum 2 years of relevant working experience in IS interpreting;
- Demonstrated experience in simultaneous interpreting in online events using Zoom, MS Teams, Webex or similar platforms.
- Previous experience in providing IS interpretation services for UN agencies or international organizations in the development sector will be considered a strong asset.
Languages:
- Fluency in English is required.
- Fluency in International Sign (IS) is required.
- Knowledge of another official UN language is desirable (French, Arabic, Chinese, Russian or Spanish).
