Background
Organizational Context
UN Women, drawing on the vision of equality enshrined in the United Nations Charter, works to eliminate all forms of discrimination against women and girls; for the empowerment of women, and to achieve equality between women and men within the framework of sustainable development and human rights.
UN Women in Mexico, in line with national priorities and international and regional instruments for the protection and defense of women’s human rights, mainly the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW, for its acronym) in English), as well as with the recommendations generated by the bodies in charge of its oversight, works to achieve substantive equality between men and women in all aspects of life, focusing on five priority areas:
- Strengthen and implement a comprehensive and dynamic set of global policies and standards on gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls.
- Strengthen mechanisms that allow women to lead, participate in and benefit equally from governance systems.
- Promote women’s income security, decent work and economic autonomy.
- Ensure that all women and girls live a life free from all forms of violence.
- Contribute to women and girls actively participating in the sustainable development of peace and resilience, and benefiting equally from humanitarian action and the prevention of natural disasters and conflicts.
Background of the Program or Project
The 2030 Agenda recognizes the need to address development problems through joint action between governments, civil society, academia and the private sector. The creation and strengthening of strategic alliances with different counterparts such as donor countries, civil society and United Nations agencies are key in efforts to promote gender equality and the empowerment of women.
UN Women in Mexico articulates its work on strategic alliances through the coordination of three groups: 1) the International Cooperation Roundtable for Gender Equality in Mexico (MCIG), a political dialogue mechanism made up of 24 Embassies and International Cooperation Agencies for Development; 2) the Civil Society Advisory Group (GASC), made up of 12 women from various states of the republic who work on different issues related to the rights of women and girls, responsible for providing advice to UN Women; and 3) the Interagency Gender Group (GIG), made up of different agencies, funds and programs of the UN in Mexico, with the purpose of strengthening gender equality within the United Nations System.
For adequate work with these groups, UN Women has a Strategic Alliances Specialist, responsible for guaranteeing articulated communication with the members of each group, following up on the design and implementation of the work plan of each group, the logistical organization of meetings and events, as well as the preparation of reports and technical inputs, concept notes, context analysis notes, data sheets on the status of women’s rights, work plans and calendar of activities, organization and coordination of events and meetings.
In order to strengthen the work of UN Women, the hiring of an individual consultant is required to provide technical and logistical support to the Coordination of Strategic Alliances.
Aim
This individual consultancy has the objective of providing technical and logistical support in the implementation and monitoring of the different work plans considered in the strategic alliances of UN Women in Mexico.
To achieve the above, the consultant will provide assistance to the Strategic Alliances Specialist, in close connection with the Program, Operations and Monitoring and Evaluation teams, in the coordination and exchange of information, including in relation to the incorporation of the different rules and procedures in UN Women programs.
Duties and Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Strategic Alliances Specialist and in coordination with the Program Specialist, the consultant will have the following key tasks and responsibilities:
The incumbent is expected to carry out the responsibilities and activities described below in order to achieve the objective of the consultancy.
Provide support in the implementation and management of Strategic Partnerships projects implemented by UN Women.
- Support in the compilation, systematization and exchange of information, as well as in the technical and logistical procedures for the fulfillment of work plans, projects and activities of Strategic Alliances.
- Contribute to the organization of missions, seminars, events and/or national, regional and international meetings related to the work plans of strategic alliances and the Annual Work Plan of UN Women, supporting the production of content, presentations, minutes, reports and /or corresponding reports.
- Support in the development and systematization of technical inputs (information, technical sheets, data, statistics and other resources), as well as conceptual notes, talking points or words for events, presentations, reports, briefing notes and other technical documents related to the mandate of UN Women in Mexico, in coordination with the program team.
- Contribute to the preparation of narrative reports to donors, as well as periodic monitoring reports on the work plans of Strategic Alliances.
- Contribute to the training and/or knowledge management processes undertaken by UN Women in terms of strategic alliances, which may include support in the design, coordination and/or delivery of workshops or awareness-raising and training talks to different key actors around to different thematic priorities of UN Women, the generation and/or review of knowledge products.
- Prepare correspondence or institutional documents; translate texts and/or simple documents from Spanish to English, and vice versa, when required.
- Support the communication and exchange of information with the members of the three groups (GIG, GASC and MCIG)

Selection procedure and application requirements
For the selection process, in the first stage, a formal verification will be carried out that the applications comply with the documentary evidence to be examined and the minimum requirements established for the consultancy. If any of the requested documents are not presented, the application will be disqualified and will not be considered for the next stage . In the second stage, the technical evaluation of the applications received is carried out, which will be qualified based on technical requirements.
Requirements
1.Bachelor’s degree in Law, Political Science, International Relations, Human Rights, Development Studies or other related areas (minimum requirement)
2.Courses, diplomas or specialization in human rights or gender equality issues, or two years of additional experience to that requested as a requirement, in project management and/or organization of events, meetings, workshops, conferences or similar.
3.At least 2 years of work on gender equality issues, international cooperation, in civil society organizations, international organizations, United Nations agencies or similar.
4.Experience of at least 2 years in supporting programmatic and logistical management and/or coordination of gender equality, international cooperation, human rights or similar projects.
5.Proficiency in reading and writing in English.
Only people who obtain a minimum of 70% of the total maximum points in the evaluation of Form P11/experience, in accordance with the previous table of requirements, will be called for an interview based on competencies on the level of knowledge of the thematic area and on the topic. specific to this consultancy.
The person with the highest total score, considering Form P11/experience, and a copy of certificates to prove education level and the interview, will be selected.
