Located in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), the Congo Democratic Multi-Country Office (CDMCO) covers 15 countries: Angola, Burundi, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Central African Republic, Comoros, Republic of Congo, Democratic Republic of Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Madagascar, Mauritius, Rwanda, São Tomé and Príncipe and Seychelles. CDMCO has a portfolio of around 400 million dollars, comprising more than 42 projects and around 250 people. Growth and geographic expansion are key priorities for CDMCO, with special attention to African SIDS: Cape Verde, Comoros, Mauritius, São Tomé and Príncipe and Seychelles, as well as the growth and consolidation of those lagging behind in development portfolio, such as Angola, Cameroon, Burundi and Rwanda.

UNOPS seeks to recruit qualified talent for the position of Driver.

The announced position will serve projects with different locations within Angola.

The post is primarily based in Luanda, but may move to other locations within Angola, depending on commercial needs.

 Functional Responsibilities

Under the guidance and supervision of the Administration Officer, the Driver provides reliable and safe driving services for the transportation of authorized personnel. The Driver has a customer-oriented approach, a high sense of responsibility, courtesy, tact and the ability to work with people from different national and cultural backgrounds. 

Specific responsibilities

Provide reliable and safe driving services: 

  • Drive vehicles safely to transport authorized personnel, materials and equipment; 
  • Collection and delivery of mail, documents and other items; 
  • Receiving and moving official personnel at the airport and facilitating immigration and customs formalities as required.

Ensure proper use of the vehicle: 

  • Accurate maintenance of daily vehicle records;
  • Provision of information for the preparation of vehicle maintenance plans and reports.


Ensure daily maintenance of the assigned vehicle by: 

  • Checking oil, water, battery, brakes, tires, etc.; 
  • Carrying out small repairs and organizing major repairs; 
  • Ensure that the vehicle is always kept clean.


Ensure availability of all necessary documents/provisions, including: 

  • Car insurance, vehicle registrations, city/country map, first aid kit, necessary spare parts and etc. 
  • Maintaining accurate fuel records.

Ensure that immediate action is taken as required by national rules and regulations if involved in an accident.

Perform other related duties as requested by supervisors. 


Monitoring and controlling progress

  • The vehicle must always be kept clean
  • No accidents and incidences
  • Regular check of maintenance and fuel records


Final product

  • Transport goods and personnel safely and in accordance with national security and traffic rules from the location to the destination point.
  • Vehicle driving state objective achieved (vehicle integrity).
  • Quality of vehicle book data.
The Driver is responsible for complying with the security policies, administrative instructions, plans and procedures of the United Nations Security Management System and UNOPS.

 Education/Experience/Language requirements

Education

  • Completion of secondary education or equivalent desirable. 
  • Driver training highly desirable.
  • Certificate in AV/B6 will be considered an advantage.
  • Mandatory professional driving license (class C1).

Experience

  • Two (02) years of work experience as a Professional Driver (minimum 02 years of professional driving license) with a safe driving record from a local or international organization.
  • Knowledge of national driving rules and regulations and skills in minor vehicle repairs.
  • Knowledge of mechanics.
  • Previous experience in a local or international organization is an advantage.


Key Skills 

  • Excellent knowledge of driving rules and regulations and skills in repairing small vehicles.
  • Good knowledge of Luanda and the current state of the roads, with safety awareness; ability to apply common sense in the context of given assignments.
  • Good knowledge of Angola and the current state of the roads is an advantage.
  • High sense of responsibility; Operate in compliance with national road and safety regulations and rules.
  • Excellent knowledge of officer driving protocol. 
  • Excellent knowledge of traffic safety issues. 
  • Ability to adhere to work tasks and meet assigned deadlines.
  • Consistent approaches, working with energy and a positive, constructive attitude. 
  • Remains calm and in control even under pressure. 
  • Respond positively to critical feedback and different points of view. 
  • Respect for cultural diversity, including race, sex or ethnic origin


Languages

  • Fluency in Portuguese and/or Spanish is mandatory. For Spanish-speaking candidates, Portuguese will be a significant advantage.
  • Fluency in written and oral English will be considered an advantage. 
  • Working knowledge of English is desired.
