Mission and objectives

For this SDG2 online campaign, we seek professionals who can share their skills regarding the prevention and reduction of food insecurity. Due to climate change, many regions in Zimbabwe are facing a critical shortage of food for their families. Our campaign seeks to spread awareness of this crisis while cultivating public support to provide aid to those in need.

Context
Sustainable Development Goal 2 (SDG 2) addresses the need for a world free of hunger by 2030. Food insecurity has grown by staggering rates in the last decade, which has further been increased by the Covid-19 pandemic and climate change. While 9.2% of the global population grapples with chronic hunger, we seek to offset these numbers in Zimbabwe. It is a statistical fact that hunger and malnutrition must have solutions to achieve sustainable achievement in global development.

This assignment will highlight Simuka Africa Youth Association’s Match-A Meal Initiative, which involves our mission to contribute toward the implementation of the “Building Sustainable and Safe Futures for Girls and Young Women Project” in Zimbabwe. To date, this program has assisted more than 650 food insecure households with food and tools to establish vegetable gardens. The program further provides monthly supplies of basic food, skills training and starting capital for income generating activities for at-risk girls, young women and child marriage survivors.

Humanitarian Crisis and Response

Task description
The task involves developing a comprehensive online campaign that informs the public on the impact of food insecurity and climate change in Zimbabwe. It will utilize a variety of statistical reports and collaborations with international efforts to further create a “call to action” that encourages direct public participation and donations to support needy families facing wide-spread food insecurity.
The online campaign will be shared on Simuka Africa Youth Association’s social media platforms. (Twitter-X, Instagram, LinkedIn, and Facebook). A short video on the topic of food insecurity may also be created for the Simuka Africa Youth Association YouTube channel.
